Just amazing how hard Faulk ran. The announcers are all worried about Cecil Colins being injured and Kevin Faulk is just knocking people back left and right. Forgot how hard hitting he could be when needed.

Don’t get me wrong Cecil was a bad arse that year for sure. Kevin was amazing also.

Collins had top level talent. Faulk had top level career.

Dinardo doesn’t get the credit due to Tepper, but Faulk was the lynchpin of our resurgence in the 21st century.

For us Gen Xer fans, Faulk didn’t “Bring Back the Magic”— he brought the Magic.

20 carries for 80 yards. Faulk had a good night.

It was Kevin’s only good game against a tough SEC opponent.

He struggled against Bama in ‘96. That should have been the game that really put him on the map. Instead, Shaun Alexander had that game.

I still have the t-shirt LSU sold the week after the game: "The Night The Goalposts Came Down LSU 28 Florida 21"

I believe that Florida D only gave up 70 yards rushing per game. They were stacked.

Faulk torched Ole Miss for like 170+ even though LSU lost (and Ole Miss finished ranked with a bowl win). He was also 1st in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards in the SEC even though he missed 3 of the first 4 games with an injury and only played in 9 games total. He had an impressive season.

Up to that point, Faulk may have been the strongest player, pound-for-pound, in LSU history. He was a gym rat before it was popular.

I was so pissed when Rondell Mealey fumbled the ball on the first drive after the runs Kevin Faulk had leading up to the turnover. I thought for sure that was the only hope we had in that game lol. I was also pissed when Herb Tyler got hit late and no flag was thrown.
Luckily we pissed off Steve Spurrier and he threw off his sun visor lol. That was a great night that I will never forget. I never thought at the time I would see LSU beat Florida in my life time the way they beat the living shite out of us year after year. Our defense was outstanding and they could not stop our running game. Florida players were getting hurt left and right in that game and we were kicking their arse on the field.

So was I. It was the first game I felt where the "Magic" was back. That stadium was electric--you could feel it everywhere.

I was a senior in HS. Rushed field and got thrown back over the gate by state trooper. Second rush I got on. Incredible night.

I preferred my “You never forget your first time in Tiger Stadium shirt.” If only a shirt I bought in ‘97 still fits in 2020....

Yeah...I was not there. I had tickets but I was a senior in HS and for some frick reason we had a game that Saturday night. I was injured for the season anyway. Instead of standing on the sideline on crutches I should’ve been in tiger stadium.

Faulk single handily won one of the games against Houston. I remember Houston’s HC being pissed that Dinardo played Faulk because he was supposed to be suspended. That HC actually said something like “ this victory by LSU has a lot to do with Dinardo playing players he isn’t supposed to”

Do yall recall in the SS before the game when the UF fan got his sign stolen and trashed?

Was there. A million say they were. One of THE greatest nights ever in TS along with 2000 Tennessee and 2001 Auburn and 2007 UF.

I gotta say 2012 SC is very underrated.

I was at Tennessee in 2001. As far as the 97 Florida game I was living in California at the time and the cable went off in Los Angeles and I had to call a guy I didn’t like to get updates on the phone on who was ahead. The game didn’t come back on till Florida already came back up with a seven point spread right before the game ended

Not only was I there and rushed the field but I am selling my house to Kevin and getting him to autograph that '97 SI with him on the cover at closing. He is the John wick of LSU football. He was given an impossible task but completing that task laid the foundation for what we have today. He made it cool again to stay at home and play for LSU.
