The "strike zone" at 40 yards is at least 10 feet by 10 feet (if the strike zone is 3 feet by 3 feet on a 10 yard throw)... do the geometry

Again. What is on the money at 40 yards? (in your opinion)

In stride, not having to slow up for the ball. Pretty simple idea really.

Why in the frick would you ever underthrow a pass when the receiver have a step or two on the DB. I can remember a few passes where it did not benefit Joe to underthrow a pass.

Its widely accepted that you give your WR a chance if it's a little short.

you have to realize that you're talking to one of Burrow's family members.

its doesnt matter if you actually believe JB is the GOAT sec qb. if you ever say he has done anything wrong, buckeye will explain why it wasnt Burrow's fault.

just take a look at his made up strike zone for a 40 yard pass.

That happens on about 20% of an elite passers long throws. But all the others that are catchable are solid throws, too.

You probably thought Tiger Woods hit a bad shot when he put a 5-iron 40 feet from the pin from 240 yards. Am I right?

you also give the db a chance to intercept it when a well placed ball wouldve ended in a td.

I dont think JBurrow has a problem with deep ball accuracy or arm strength. most of the time underthrow balls are a timing issue but I wont sit here and act like Burrow purposefully underthrow deep balls when the wr had a step on the db.

Just watched the link. I may have seen 3 under thrown balls but I saw a lot of intentional back shoulder throws.

burrow does not have a problem with deep ball accuracy or arm strength.

You'll get downvoted to oblivion but your not wrong.
I may be the biggest fan of Burrow this side of Athens, Ohio. That said, he is human and has underthrown a few passes where clearly a backshoulder throw was not the intent. Chase was usually the guy who would come back and "Moss" the DB like he did on that one spectacular catch against Texas.
Where I disagree with OP is that I don't see Oklahomas DBs able to hang with our first round studs at wideout. And of course Joe Burrow is the best player in the country, he will dice them up. 48-24 LSU

You have a ridiculous & romanticized misconception of a QB's strike zone at 40 yards.

Ever? I’m sure he has.

Is he the most accurate NCAA passer in history? Yep.

Receivers look like they bailed him out on several underthrown balls.

That's what receivers do.

QBs make receivers better - like the MANY times Burrow hit them on wide open passes, in stride so they could make plays. Receivers make QBs look better, like their chemistry on 50/50 balls and the YAC puffing up the QBs passing yardage.

It is a symbiotic relationship that doesn't work if the QB isn't up to snuff or the WRs aren't. See 2013 - Mett was without a doubt a great college QB - tough, big arm, but he was not nearly as accurate as Burrow - think how many circus catches that Juice and OBJ just had to manufacture. In that case, the WRs elevated the QB, IMHO, but Mett had to do his part, avoid the rush and get the ball to at least remotely catchable.

It is a lot more even between Burrow and the dozen or so players to whom he completed passes to in 2019. I mean, does anyone question whether or not Chase is the best overall wide receiver? Dude is still 19 and looks like he has been playing in the NFL for years.

Chase is an elite WR. But Jefferson has a much higher catch rate than Chase.

No. But it certainly could have been better if he hit it closer than 40 ft.

The same goes for Joe. Wasn't a horrible throw, but could've been better. Agaisnt better competition, it may get intercepted.

It's really only a small criticism of his game that the OP brought up and other have realized.

It's pretty darn impressive that that is has biggest flaw.

I swear some of you need help. it's not enough to say Burrow is the best sec qb ever... I have to actually believe his underthrown balls were intentional.

Have you ever wondered why every QB in the history has a lower and lower completion rate the longer the throw is?

You think a marksman puts the same number of shots in the bullseye at 200 yards as he does at 800 yards?

You wanna know what a great long-throw QB looks like? Watch Joe Burrow.
