Was this really intended to be a hit piece?

Am I the only one who believes this weak-arse "hit piece" was nothing more than a troll job by the network to drum up attention for the tournament? I mean, we're talking about a lot of dollars at stake here. Nothing like a little free advertisement to get people talking (and more importantly - watching).
It certainly wouldn't be the first time this ploy was attempted.
And if I'm right, it only bodes well for LSU because it means the network wants people tuning in to see the Tigers.

Or Kim made them redact all their dumb arse excessive bullshite flare from the article.

Probably not but when Mulkey gets word that he's asking about treatment of gay players and her non-relationship with her dad I understand how she'd get that idea.

They no doubt removed a bunch of shite from the article and then were forced to include affidavits provided by Mulkey’s attorneys.
Kim won. Only idiots are now saying she overreacted. She directly caused it to be weak.
Part of me believes Babb then decided to ghostwrite the LA Times piece

Absolutely
Never seen Nick Saban’s family secrets been asked about publicly. And he’s got a few that many of us know of well.

100% this. It was supposed to come out during the early part of the week last week. I’m sure they had their editors and legal take a look at it and removed anything that could even be perceived as defamatory.

It's possible. It wasn't just the ComPost reporter playing it up as a hit piece - BSPN was saying it was the elephant in the room. Maybe they were hyping it for ratings.
But multiple people also reported that he was looking for dirt.

My apologies but are we talking about Washington post or LA times here?

Pretty sure he's asking about the WaPo story. The LA times story was just bullshite cheerleading that you'd expect from a UCLA sophomore working for the Daily Bruin.

Read the Brian Kelly one.
Was never going to be a hit piece

My uninformed opinion: I think the article was always going to look something like this. I don't think it was ever set up to be a "hit piece." If that was truly the intent, there would've been a lot more digs in it.
I think Pat Forde is a shite head who heard that an article was going to come out, it was going to mention some of the controversies Mulkey has been involved in, and that Mulkey refused to be part of it and ran with it and tweeted like the shite stirrer he is and we all freaked out.
I'm not well plugged in so I don't know Kent Babb's track record, so maybe you guys can correct me but I don't know of him with a history of shitty articles. Pat Forde, on the other hand, has been a frick stick forever. I think Babb was likely trying to just write a profile of a high profile sports figure in the height of its popularity with the good, the bad, and the ugly. The only thing I didn't like was that he was really interested in her personal life, Mulkey deserves her privacy like the rest of us.
ETA: unlike the LA Times article which was a straight up hatchet job with no journalistic integrity.

As an marched with his players after George Floyd’s death. He paid his dues. Get with the times.

Was supposed to be but no one answered the way the Dawn’s guy wanted. He ended up having to pull up personal family conflict.
