Although Spurrier may have wanted to come to LSU, he had made a deal with Lou Holtz and USC to take over when Lou left USC, and he did. LSU also offered the job to the NC coach but he turned it down because of health issues. At the time he wasn't coaching NC yet. Should be an interesting game next year's opening game LSU vs NC.

Actually, what is needed is an offensive coordinator who is at the same level as our defensive coordinator.

See, thats a great question. People aren't sure whether this is Crowton's philosophy or Miles being implemented at the moment. It seems to be a mix of both but coach's change their offense every so often to replicate places that had success.

You find out what coaching clinics/other universities Miles/Crowton visited this off-season and that could be your answer to why we're trying some whacky shite. Apparently we think we're Air Force with this option crap.

I never was sold on Crowton but he seemed to do pretty well when he had a QB like Flynn who knew how to make reads down field. That could be what is missing. If the offensive line could protect and Jefferson read a defense, we'd probably be a top 20 offense.

If you want to get pissed, get pissed at Miles for not signing anybody but #11 in 05 and then not developing anybody in 2005-2007 besides one QB. Cause Flynn started one season. That basically shouldn't affect your recruiting. Thats what you should be complaining about at QB, the piss poor development at QB and lack of recruiting.

WOW! So no need for that highly ranked 2010 signing class?

incase you missed it LSU's 09 class was ranked #1 by ESPN and the prize jewel of that class (Russell Shepherd) didn't sniff the field last night. great recruiting classes mean nothing if you can't coach them. we have 3 future NFL receivers, 2 NFL running backs (at least), and an NFL tight end and we only scored 3 freaking points last night. i realize fla's d is incredible, but 3 freaking points. we scored 20 (which is pretty good, but i'm making a point here) on a georgia defense that gave up 37 points to south carolina who is horrible on offense, 41 to arkansas, and 45 to tennessee who is also horrible. this is probably the worst offense i've seen since i've been a season ticket holder since 97. the 02 team featuring marcus randall is the only one that's close.

A function of coaching, which falls on Miles.

In fact, regardless if Crowton or anyone else fails, the buck stops with Miles and he alone deserved the credit.

Maybe it was because he was cheap.

You get what you pay for.

I dont mean to rile anyone up but I was thinking back to Les Miles' time at Oklahoma State and I remember he had similar problems with his offense there.
Does anyone remember the reason Miles was picked to replace Saban?

His record at OK. St. was anything but impressive with a 0.571 winning percentage.

Year School Record
2001 Oklahoma State 4-7
2002 Oklahoma State 8-5
2003 Oklahoma State 9-4
2004 Oklahoma State 7-5

He came to LSU, ate one cup of gumbo, and became a football genius. Haven't you been keeping up with the rant?

True Shepard didn't play. Wonder if he got dinged up in practice? Hmm...I bet we see him against Auburn. Somehow I think Shep will survive missing 1 game this year. True LSU only scored 3 poins. But the #1 team only scored 13 freaking points.

miles was not near number one on the list for the coaching job but would u rather have someone like saban who is a bouncer, saban struggled against smaller schools. no perfect coach. i think we could use a fresh new oc.

I am not sure if some people realize that Miles does not call any of the plays on offense. That is Crowton, if people want to bitch about our offense that is where it needs to be.

the problem is that LSU did what it does, went CHEAP for a coach. Les Miles should have been about the 10th best candidate back then.
He walks into a loaded kitchen and stumbled and bumbled his way to a NC.
Then we come off of that and go a very ugly 8-5 (should have been worst).
Now we've stumbled and bumbled our way to a 5-1 record. But, this season can really make or break Miles.
If this team continues to play offensively, the way they have to this point we will lose a minimum of 3 more games. This offense will get destroyed by bama and ole miss. Aub and Ark will be very tough games.
This team has talent, but something is terribly wrong with it. Something was terribly wrong last year. It's pretty clear what the problem is?
OL, QB, DL??? I say No.
It's the man wearing the headset.

I have no problem with hiring a bouncer. He has to do a good job for other programs to come calling.

Miles is no threat to leave, because no other school/team would think of hiring him. Not even Michigan.
