Charles Tucker - Springfield

all district 3 years all state 2 years

AA state mvp sr year over Kevin Brooks from white Castle who was a nba draft pick from white castle

signed with Tim Floyd at Idaho and got in trouble and never played

Charles wasnt the best in state history but he damn sure was top 100

6'3 shooting guard who could absolutely fill it up from everywhere

define "greatest" h/s only? or entire basketball career?

Posts like these always suffer from this vague kind of scope.

HS only? If so, why? Isn't the fact that Karl Malone went on to become one of the best players in NBA history trump the fact that Greg Purcell lit it up in HS?

Dunno...I'll take an NBA hall of famer over someone who was a HS legend and nothing more.

Hey great article by Brocato, thanks for the link. It really brought back some memoires.

But keep in mind guys that this article was written in 2003 (i think) so many of the greats since then were not on the list.

Yeah If you count all 6 years.
quote:

Despite coming from a small Class C school in the Bayou, Carter is a big-time talent who ended his prep career with 5,748 points, second on the all-time national list behind Greg Procell of Ebarb, who scored 6,702 points at a small Louisiana school between 1967-70. Carter actually started playing on the Eagles' varsity as a seventh grader and first made national headlines by attending the NIKE All-American camp as a rising ninth-grader. In his six-years on the varsity, he scored 7,254 points, led the state in scoring five times and led Reserve Christian to four state titles. As a senior the Eagles played in some tough out-of-state tournaments and "Tweety" still averaged 30.8 points per game, setting a single-season national record by draining 287 three-pointers in the process. "He is a once-in-a-lifetime player," Reserve Christian head coach Timmy Byrd said of Carter, who will continue his playing career at Baylor University.

No doubt.

I heard many stories of his greatness growing up.

I wish he would have had a successful career in the NBA.

Injuries really did him in.

Greg Procell was one of my football coaches in highschool. great guy and one hell of a bass fisherman. you can come up with several people who the best is but i have to go with procell. We had a school canival one year and there was a contest for shooting the basketball from midcourt. no one could make it. Coach Procell hit 3 out of 5. he was in his mid forties then lol. I asked him how he got so good and he told me when his dad would drink a beer he would give the empty beer can for him to throw away in there washer machine. he told me his dad drank alot of beer. lol
