Wade’s games haven’t been as memorable as Dale’s games yet, but he’s getting there

Some fans will may never appreciate how exciting Dale’s games at LSU were. You know it’s memorable when you can remember almost every detail. The UNLV game, a highly ranked opponent on national tv, and the student section was hollering “show your tits” to the UNLV cheerleaders, a game LSU won in the last seconds.

Or Chris Jackson scoring 53 at Fla and beating a very good Georgetown team while getting double and triple teamed at half court in the SuperDome, almost single handedly leading LSU to victories. Or Dale Brown expressing his anger at SEC refs by throwing his jacket on the floor at Kentucky and covering up their emblem at mid court. SEC refs were notoriously favorable to Kentucky. Or the Loyola M game where they both scored like two NBA teams. Or losing to Kentucky three times then beating them to advance in the NCAA tournament. Dale’s LSU teams beat so many great Kentucky teams, that he lived rent free in the heads of their fan base. You could be leaving the Maravich Assembly Center and hear Kentucky fans mumbling Dale Browns name.

It was fan-tastic. Watched so many of Dale’s players like Shaq dominate a game, but it was Chris Jackson whom Sports Illustrated dubbed the next Pistol Pete, that truly lit up the scoreboard and crowd. Shaq was dominant but frustrated fans with missed free throws. Chris could do no wrong in any game, he was that great in college.

We actually lost to Kentucky 3 times that year before beating them in the regional finals in Atlanta. That was the 4th time we played them that year (twice regular season and SEC Tournament). Just being your fact checker and editor baw, otherwise solid post

How many of those memories you mention were in Dale's first four years? I would say maybe the one about him throwing his jacket in Lexington cause we were getting blown out, but i'm not sure what year that was.

But I would say the tip-in at the buzzer to beat KY in Lexington, Waters buzzer beater in College station and Waters layup to beat Maryland and advance to the Sweet Sixteen were all pretty memorable to me.

I randomly watched the Bigby-Williams tip vs UK and Tremont's last second layup vs Maryland last night.

Are you freaking shutting with this bullshite as novel post? You can’t possibly try to compare ANY ATHLETIC event from today to that period of time. Why? Entitled arse fans and athletes. This is about a social event and not the fricking thing it should be - a game where FANS ARE frickING ENGAGED ESPECIALLY THE STUDENTS.

I had MBB season tickets from 1980-1992. It was awesome. I attended nearly every game. Went to the elite 8 tournament at the Superdome in 1981 and Philly final 4. You know what? During the Christmas break they SOLD STUDENT SECTION SEATS AFTER THE GAME STARTED BECAUSE NO ASSES WERE IN THE SEATS DURING THAT SEASON!

Believe me, the experience you are writing about has nothing to do with the head coach. It is about the fricking fan experience.

Settle down there young blood and don’t be ugly like your name. Us old timers still have our glory days but I agree those were 3 great moments. But I love me some Will Wade and I don’t get the hate for a guy that is making us relevant again. When I was in school big John Williams was driving around campus in a full size top of the line BMW. Come on man a kid from Compton sporting that whip. If it wasn’t for Lester Earl Dale would have never been caught. Remember ITS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW ITS WHAT YOU CAN PROVE. Obviously Wade has a connection with these kids that nobody’s saying shite and they’re all coming back to play for him and not leaving. Add in top recruits and you guys hate on him cause of a strong arse offer. Gimme a fukin break, what happened to IF YOU AINT CHEATING YOU AINT TRYING!!!!!!! Forever LSU

PS. WHAT ABOUT ZION’S PARENTS HOUSE AT DUKE? UNLIKE JAVONTE’S $$ THAT NO ONE CAN LOCATE YOU CAN BET YOUR arse THAT HOUSE IS STILL STANDING AND YOU DONT HEAR shite ABOUT IT. REEEE-FUKIN-DICKULOUS

Take a chill tablet. I’ll say this, the student section during Dale’s years was highly motivated, knew how to elevate the crowds way up, today’s students wouldn’t know how to clean they’re own underwear.

Ha! I started going to LSU basketball games in 1973 and I was in Birmingham in 80 when we won our only SEC Tournament and in the Superdome in 81 when we beat Wichita to go to the Final Four and the buzzer put back against Georgetown and was in the PMAC for probably 80% of the home games from '73 on.

Not sure what relevance this has in this discussion or why it's directed at me, and some of your other comments for that matter? I'm all in for WW.

Was just making a point baw. Only the beginning was at you. But am I right about the $$ and the house or what? Also about Wade’s connection with the kids? Those boys would run through a brick wall for coach which is how it should be

Like I said, all in on WW. I have some issues with him on certain things but he's the coach I want.

The man could really schedule. I remember as a kid being so pumped to watch us play UNLV or Georgetown or North Carolina. Wade is a master at scheduling but especially with all the negative pub we’re getting now I’d love to see him pull a North Carolina or Indiana or UCLA game. These teams are ripe for beat downs and would really help to get more fans to come and enjoy LSUs rise through college basketball.

And now they look at their phones the entire game. They are no better than the old farts that sit down the entire game

Remember the news papers before the game? Little things like that get people engaged. I also think they need to move the students back to where they were, they’re too far away from the court right now.

Some fans are way too impatient, and unreasonable.

Don’t forgot the games he scheduled with the Houston Cougars with Akeem Olajhawon (sorry for the spelling) and Sampson. Dale brought a lot of great teams to play LSU at the PMach.

That’s cool. But don’t think I’ll ever forgive/forget 31-pt blown lead.

That was just before my time. I was old enough to follow them but I was strictly football at that age. My Dad was obsessed with Don Redden and John Williams so that was my first team where I went to games and kept up with the players. I just missed out on Hakeem and them but you’re right Daddy Dale was a wiz at getting marquee opponents.

I anticipate the Bama game in the PMAC this year should be memorable. Anyone who goes should be ready to be loud.
