The only reason it lasted as long as it did is because his case got tied up in the FBI investigation. Without that he is busted in year 2 and run out of town by 2020.

No. If the FBI never tapped any phones, none of this ever happens.

The FBI investigation is what brought the NCAA's attention.

Are you saying that he would have gotten busted without the FBI investigation?

Absolutely. Any minor investigation would have required him to turn over phone records and bank records, which he of course could never do.

Why would he have been under investigation without the FBI investigation?

The NCAA does not have the power to subpoena private citizens for their bank and phone records.

If the FBI did not get involved, the NCAA would not have had access to this information, nor would they have opened an investigation.

The FBI wasn't even interested in Wade. He was caught in the crossfire.

You do realize that the FBI investigation wasn’t into Will Wade right? Wade was called in as a potential witness against Dawkins because the taps on Dawkins had Wade on them. When Dawkins lawyer was informed of this he gave Forde information in order to smear and discredit Wade as a witness. That’s not a defense of what he did it’s just how this all started.

Wade sucked as coach and now with NIL he’s obsolete.

I disagree he was headed in that direction but no one will ever know. He screwed up and was a sloppy cheater. Time to move on and support our new coach.

The NCAA can require a head coach or assistant coach to turn over records or it becomes a Level 1 violation.

LOL if you think Wade running his mouth and paying much more than the blue bloods for recruits wouldn't have led to someone dropping a dime on him.

It is how the Smart investigation started, but Wade had already tied up his work phone and personal bank account into violations. Naz Reid's gf was a lose wire and all it would take would be someone saying Wade was making recruiting texts to prospects when he shouldn't and the request for phone records would have come and Wade would be busted. That would lead to further investigations and everything that has come out would have come out.

Would love a link to this.

How can something they have LITERALLY zero proof of turn into any violation? I understand there is no presumption of innocence in NCAA proceedings, but they can't just create violations out of thin air with nothing to go off of.

He was paying FMV. Zion got a million dollar house plus 400k. Wade wasn't throwing those figures around.

Yeah the blue bloods were mad, but if you have no evidence or paper trail, at all, what do you expect the NCAA to do.

You’re telling me with the players that would’ve stayed, a healthy Adam Miller, the class that we had coming in and the players we would’ve likely picked up in the portal, there’s just no way you can picture in your head that Wade couldn’t have brought us to the Final Four? boy. shite on Wade to your hearts delight, he had his shortcomings. He was an absolute idiot when it came to properly cheating. THAT’S how you get to the Final Four. Or were you under the assumption UNC, Duke, Kansas and Villanova were squeaky clean programs?
That's exactly what I'm saying. Guy couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Sure the other programs you mentioned have top tier players, but they also have top tier coaches to go along with them.

Exactly, these fools will never understand that as fun as it was it wasn't a sustainable model.
