I’m in Knoxville and these idiots think Vitello said no to us. I don’t think he even interviewed or was an option. Am I wrong? I’m excited about Johnson though! Need a solid pitching coach and all will be fine.

Vitello was never a serious option. People inside the AD basically hated him.

Trust me, if LSU offered and he turned it down, you’ll hear about it. You would have already heard about it in the media.
Because UT/Vitello would have every incentive to make that known.
It looks pretty clear we didn’t offer. I don’t necessarily agree with us not offering, but I’m not in charge of the search, I’m sure they had their reasons.

I don't know if we offered but it was well known that TN would throw the kitchen sink to keep him there. If we offered anything in the vicinity of what they offered, he must've really just wanted to keep building what he started there. He'll have options again in about 5 years when Corbin and Van Horn hang em up - who knows, we might open up again by then, too.

I think you have a case of fans being enamored with a guy but the people at the top not so much. Plus paying an inflated price to outbid the fat desperate girl trying to keep him wasn’t ideal either

I like Johnson. I don't know enough about him to love him or hate him.
ETA: My comment about the position opening up again in about 5 years has nothing to do with Johnson because I really don't know what to expect. But, his head will be on a chopping block if the ship isn't sailing by then.

Exactly. I’m beginning to think the TV interest from LSU fans was more about sticking a middle finger to Tennessee fans than actually wanting him to coach. In the end, I think they made a good hire.
