Visiting Alex Box Stadium for the First Time this Weekend!

I've seen it a million times on TV. Was supposed to come down for a Regional but work through a wrench into that. Aside from Omaha, I've heard it's a bucket list college baseball stadium to go check out. Since I just moved to Houston, have never been to LA, I figured what the he||, I'm going to go watch LSU at Alex Box.
Got tickets (looks like I'm in RF). I got a hotel for the night as I really don't want to drive 4+ hours back after the game. I've asked a few people I've met here that are LSU fans and they said Walk-On's is a place to check out. I don't know if there are any tailgaters to check out, I just want to take in the experience.
I shouldn't be hard to miss as I will be wearing my Oregon State gear (GO BEAVS)! But that said, I've always respected LSU's program. Saw them once when they came to Corvallis for a Regional. Invited a few LSU faithful to our tailgater as they were walking by giving them smoked salmon, smoked tuna, and a few of our variety of beers. They loved the fish, not our beers (we had some bud light and Coors Light.) But they were super cool.
Any pointers on where to go would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and do they serve alcohol? They do at Goss (beer & wine only), but it's designated areas only and you can't bring it to your seat (that could've changed as it's been 2 years since I last went).

To be fair, It was a bucket list. Unfortunately we got passed up by many programs

)

I would stay at Staring Inn

Yes. they serve alcohol. Check out the local craft beer concession stand on the concourse behind the plate.
You should also take a few minutes to tour the mini museum of LSU/CWS/Skip Bertman baseball history, Tigers in the MLB, etc. even if you are not an LSU fan, this is first class in my opinion.

Walkons is a sports bar across the street from the Box. Nothing special but a decent pregame stop. I would also suggest the Chimes on the North side of campus but it's a bit of a trek from there to the Box. Another thing you could do is see if Mike is out and about in his cage. Also, I'm pretty sure you can have beer anywhere in the stadium now. Enjoy the game

I think it’s cool to visit other baseball parks. Hope you have fun. I also hope LSU plays well (obviously) but also so you don’t have to hear bitching and complaining all game.

Are you going Saturday?
Go to the Spring game, check out Tiger Stadium.
Also, go to The Chimes bar and restaurant, it's the other side of campus near the parade grounds.

So check out Chimes after the game, Walk-On's is alright (I was just looking for a pregame place), I'll check out the mini-museum, the craft beer behind home plate. Since the Spring Game's at 1, probably won't have time to check it out.
I might check out Death Valley on Sunday AM before I head back. Was supposed to go back in 2004 but got transferred the week before so had to give my ticket away. All my friends said you guys were extremely hospitable and nice. They had a blast.
Thanks for all the tips! Looking forward to it!

It was ahead of its time once. Now not so much .

There will be some tailgating going on outside The Box, west side. Don't hesitate to introduce yourself and explain what you're doing. Good chance you'll get invited to eat, drink and be merry.

If you go to New Orleans, French Quarter Fest will be happening, but watch yourself.

Welcome to Tiger Country! While it’s true Alex Box has been passed by other stadiums as far as amenities and maybe even atmosphere, there is only one stadium that can say it is home to arguably the premier college baseball team in the nation. And you will be in it. Enjoy!

I went a few years ago for the spring game and an Arkansas baseball series. There was plenty of tailgating then. I remember one group had a canopy tent set up like a sports bar with five or six TVs.
They had a large crowd when I got there and was headed for the spring game. A decent crowd when I left the spring game to go to the baseball game. And a large crowd again when I was leaving. I think the majority of the tailgaters didn't go to either event. They just hung-out outside and partied the whole time.
I have no idea if it is still like that these days

Will do! Thanks for the tip, a new friend of mine that's LSU alum stated the same thing. He said state what you're doing as you might get some looks wearing your OSU gear, but as long as you're cool and respectful, most people will welcome you with open arms. He said expect some friendly $#it talking, but I'm used to that everywhere so it's probably no different to all the other places I've been. I just want some good gumbo!

I would say see mike the tiger, if he is out. I would check out the spring football game, since it is free to get in even if you stayed 5 minutes. beaver stadium sits 46k , LSU is over 100k , just to see the size of it from the inside and imagine what it is like on a saturday night, and to say you have been there.

I was at Oregon State's game vs. Long Beach this past Saturday. Will not be as chilly in Baton Rouge.

It's not so much that the Box is a piece of shite now as many negatators here put it as it is that the hawgs, Moo State and a few others have all built new stadiums or significantly improved their old ones. When visiting teams / fans come to the Box from out of state, they all still rave about it. Plenty of tailgating Tiger fans for you to eat & drink all you want. Wear your shirt & don't be shy & you'll be more than happy you made the trip.
