Are you that small minded to understand?
Private Citizens can spend their money how ever they damn well please.
Those Men or Women involved with said buyout could burn that money if they so choose.
Its private funds.

. I understand what you are saying about private vs public dollars but it is still very sad about our priorities as a society . If we are willing to accept that kind of a huge private donation to pay off a very foolish commitment for a potentially questionable move in its own right you can't help but be critical of the donors as to why they don't spend their money in much better ways to help the university and/or much better causes in general.
Even if you separate the two worlds the fantasy land sports world from the real world, doing this isn't very smart in EITHER world. I find it hard to believe that someone who is smart enough to make that kind of money honestly would be willing to part with it so foolishly.
It's called freedom, pal.
You don't get to decide how someone else spends their money. What's "foolish" to you makes perfect sense to someone else, and vice versa.

Because Jindal was using his governorship as a platform to become president, resulting in much of the funding challenges for the state university does not mean private donors should bail him out and not spend money on things they enjoy.

The university "struggling" is bullshite. Like most public institutions nationwide it is an inefficient beuracracy that excels in spending other people's money (I.e. the taxpayers). Were drastic cuts needed? Probably not. But LSU, just like every state department could stand to have some of the fat trimmed. The "dire straits" situation is just hyperbole spouted by those with a stake in keeping tax payer money flowing. There is new construction all over a supposedly "broke" campus.
As for the $15 mill buyout, it's due over the span of 8 years. What's will happen is that LSU will try to negotiate it down in exchange for one lump sum payment. Les will likely agree to accept one check in the neighborhood of 8-10 million rather than wait for the full $15 million over the course of 96 payments

I posted last week that it's somewhat immoral to be paying that kind of money for football when there are so many other higher education needs. But whatever.
How would you like to lose to your livelihood because of somebody's emotional perception of your job performance? How is be compensated similarly to others with the same job "immoral"?
Les has been one of the most successful head football coaches over the past decade in NCAA Football. That fact can be proven objectively with math.
If it is immoral, why do you get so caught up in the immorality of it all?

How is it that people still don't understand the financial separation between the university and the athletic department?
How can people still not understand ethical behavior.

The school and the athletic department are...ready for this....
SEPARATE ENTITIES
Eh. Only in a quasi way. It's not like the athletic department would just start using a different mascot and start using non-LSU students.
LSU athletics is very much owned by the state. It's just that when something becomes a cash cow it often gets spun off. The state can absolutely grab 100% of control back. It's theirs.
If the athletic department is going to be a completely separate entity then LSU is getting a raw deal. They could sell it on the open market and fetch more than what TAF sends back. High bidder would likely agree to send tens of millions back every year.
