Nebraska seems to be an odd pick.
Though Nebraska lost some key people, the bulk of their team is returning. Hence people expect them to be better. Plus, who in the Big-12 north is going to beat them? They could easily head to the B12CG at 10-2 or 11-1.

Look for Ridley to go off in this game against that vaunted defense.
I think what will get to UNC is the speed. You get past those big horses up front and it's a run to daylight. I think Russell Shepard destroys them by taking a couple little dink passes to the house.

Makes you wonder who was the energy behind our team during Miles' 1st 3 years

What a shock, people calling Ohio State (and no one else) overrated. Wow!

What does not look right is no USC & N Dame. Regardless of the reason. NOT complaining.

I would call that a product of scheduling. The bulk of the Big-10 doesn't play a meaningful OOC game (tOSU excluded).
I'd say that's probably true of most BCS conferences, and definitely true of the SEC.

Who ever does well in division play rises in the rankings regardless of the strength of the conference. The exact opposite happens in SEC play.
Not sure what you mean by this. The teams that do well in SEC play do rise in the rankings. If you're referring to non-conference scheduling, the SEC is pretty much the same as any other conference, and probably worse than some.

the Big-10 did well in bowls last year, but in the previous years they stunk. The big question is whether this last year was a "return to form" or a "statistical aberration". Based on the difficulties Big-10 teams had with lower echelon teams, I'm inclined to believe the latter.
Over a fairly long period of time, the Big Ten and SEC have played pretty close to even in their head-to-head bowl matchups. The only area where there is a big difference is in BCS bowls, where the SEC has a significantly better record than pretty much any other BCS conference.

How are you guys banging on OU? They'll likely win the big 12 and end up in the natl title game if tOSU screws up.
Ummm, Texas Longhorns?

USA Today Coaches Pre-Season Poll...LSU No. 16
You people are insane.....like absolutely insane. OSU plays 4 teams in preseason top 14, 2 on the road. Who else is playing that level of schedule?
Just about everyone in the sec. There are 5 sec west teams in the top 30. All 6 have votes.

dum coaches, dum polls.
if dem coaches and writers would just read what the ranterds have to say about miles, then lsu would be unranked and miles would already be fired.
dem dum peoples,
dey gotta listen to peewee, eyetallion and gayboy.

Just know that with Saban we were beginning to start to be preseason top 10 every year ...
I see your point.

Read the prior posts and many are spot on. The poll combines perceived strength of schedule, whose returning, and who is the coach.
The elite teams are reloading while all others have "some serious holes to fill."
Pelini deserves a great deal of credit for LSU's accomplishments during his tenure. Since his departure, LSU and Nebraska have been heading in opposite directions. Also, don't forget that his accomplishments came with Peveto and Mallory on staff

But WTF is up with Oklahoma at #8?
Probably because they have 1-2 games on their schedules where they MIGHT be underdogs. I think ranking them at 8 is totally correct.

Ohio St. #2 never cease to be over rated.
I think they have what it takes to go undefeated. Again, smart voting by the pollsters.

Well, 2004 was the beginning of a six-year streak of being ranked in the top 10 in preseason.
