During Big Ten media days on Tuesday, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer was asked about his former quarterback Joe Burrow who transferred to LSU.

Here's everything he had to say about the Tigers new quarterback.

Bill Rabinowitz @brdispatch

Meyer on his talk w Joe Burrow regarding his decision: "Very tough conversation in a positive way. Joe Burrow in the last two weeks of practice did everything he could to put himself in there.... I wish he was still with us. I love Joe Burrow."

Connor O'Gara @cjogara

I asked Urban Meyer why LSU fans should be excited for the arrival of Joe Burrow.

This was what he had to say.

This makes me pretty excited. Urban definitely has no obligation to laud the kid after he left so it sounds like he's being sincere. Obviously he probably wouldn't shite on a kid who left but he also didn't have to be so complimentary. Sounds like Burrow is legit and Urban truly enjoyed coaching him.

I have always hated Urban Meyer with a passion. I am having to rethink that somewhat because of the way he has handled Burrow. Some coaches would have found a reason to trash the guy, or at least downplay his abilities. Meyer seems to really respect the kid and not afraid to speak highly of him while he goes on to another school.

Hey it's okay.. he was groomed elsewhere so he couldn't be ruined and doomed from the start like our freshmen. He'll be fine!

The fact that Joe could leave is what pushed the issue

If Joe can't leave on his on no way Urban looks so clean in all this.

The timeline Urban had was based on Joe and Urban. Urban picked the stronger arm and that does not always work out.

I would love the facts to play out that the QB master at OSU made a mistake on letting Joe go!

are you throwing mud at CSE?

I have little concern with the offensive staff that will be shaping Joe at LSU.

Recruit transfers that were taught by competent coaches. I’m not sure that’s a sustainable strategy.

So the “Orgeron as head coach” plan is:

- hire a convicted felon to be the narrative nazi to control weak minded fans.
- be dependant on great coordinators to mask his stupidity.
- recruit transfers from other competent coaches.

Did I miss any?

Of course not! It’s very common that the brightest offensive minds in football are assigned to coach TE’s.

Idk why people have a hard time with this. I've heard these same things from die hard Ohio State fans that have zero vested interest in LSU and may have some slight for LSU but still have to admit that we now have their best QB.

I honestly think that he would have started at some point for Ohio State. Burrow wanted to be the guy not a back up at any point and is why he left.

I don't think O gave him a promise to start but told him I've seen you all play and I can promise you that you've got a great chance to win the battle, with a wink though lol. Which is true IMO.

I think he's going to be at least what Etling was decision wise with better accuracy, stronger running and slightly better arm. He'll make throws that Etling felt that he couldn't make in the SEC. While also putting the ball in places Etling couldn't.

Wish you could distinguish between trashing a team and trashing a head coach.
