Upgrade/downgrade/even - Position Groups

Compared to last year, which groups will be an upgrade, downgrade or remained the same?
QB- upgrade. This will be Burrow's second year in the program and we are moving to a system where he is more comfortable. Having a back-up with 3 years in a program is a definite plus as well.
RB- slight upgrade. Brossette was a nice surprise. Seasoned veteran but didn't have true home run ability. Adding Emery adds home run ability but you lose experience. Overall, the combo of CEH, Emery, Davis, Curry, and Fournette will be slightly better than last year's group.
WR- Upgrade. Everyone returns with added experience
TE- Downgrade. Moreau was a draft pick and very reliable. Too many uncertainties to be an upgrade
OL- Upgrade. Only lose Brumfield while adding depth. The quick patterns should also benefit the line
DL- Even- Logan, Fehoko and Lawrence return and swapping out Alexander for Shelvin. Depth is there but its unproven. If you count LB Chiasson as a DL, then getting him back makes this an upgrade
LB- Downgrade. This is a talented and deep group but you are losing the Butkus award winner and heart and soul of the team.
DB- Even. Losing Greedy hurts but replacing him with Stingley eases the pain. Returning Delpit for a 3rd year also keeps DBU chugging along.
ST- downgrade. Tracy was just a weapon

LB as a downgrade is just wrong. White was great, but we are getting Chaisson back along with insane depth and proven talent and leadership at linebacker. I think it’s a definite upgrade. I also think RB is a bigger upgrade than you are suggesting. DL is a massive upgrade as well.

DL is an upgrade. Only losing Alexander and getting Ika plus another year to get better for the others (Logan is going to be a really solid player this year) and having Shelvin contribute anything is just lagniappe.

TE is tricky because while foster was an NFL draft pick, we didn’t use him as such. with this new offense I expect the TE to be used more in the passing game. excited to see what sullivan can do at TE, and also pettigrew

getting Chaisson back
He's the elite edge rusher we were missing last year. I can see him being another Arden Key.

DL is an upgrade
LB is even to an upgrade
DB is an upgrade
TE will be an upgrade because Foster wasn’t utilized and we get guys back
RB is quite a bit of an upgrade not just a slight one
ST is tough to say because York will be good, Tracey was incredible but I think we are much better in the return game.

Not saying the LBs will be terrible. In fact I think they will be fantastic. It's just tough to lose the nation's best linebacker and think this means the position group has improved.

losing D white hurts us. But if you counter in Phillips, Divinity, Queen and the offseason and experience those guys have now then it pretty much offsets. Plus Chaisson and Marcel brooks off the edge. I think our whole defense improves from top to bottom.
forgot about Jacoby Stevens. If he plays the way he did at the end of last year then he and Chaisson will be a TFL machine

Sorry, but I disagree. In addition to being one of the best MLB's in LSU history, White was the heart and soul of last year's defense. NO ONE played harder. Phillips/Divinity are good players...but no one can say right now that either is close to White.
While not necessarily his fault, Chaisson is STILL little more than great hype. He may (and hopefully will) be the best pass rusher in LSU history. But right now he doesn't have the history of production to say he is. As for the other guys, Anthony/Thornton had every opportunity to make a mark last year and neither did. Queen had a few moments, but there was a SIGNIFICANT drop off between the first unit LB's and the second unit.
I think every other position should be either the same or better than last year except for LB.

id say this is a push...especially if you go with the passing game...now blocking game is the uncertainty but as far as catching the ball its an upgrade with Sullivan

Def an upgrade..not even a question

Way bigger upgrade than you think...i will be surprised if Emery isnt the main ball carrier by Week 3

Who will be the punt and kickoff returners this year?

I would Also say we have better depth even with it being freshmen.
We were a couple I hyries Away from Netherlands and Alexander playing a ton last season.

Don’t sleep on the leadership they have at LB.
especially Divinity. I think he’s going to take the vocal role and execute it well for that group.
Others will show excellent leadership by example.

I think we will see Emery on Kick offs similar to Leonard during his freshman year and Stingley might be punt return

You lose the best LB in the country. Take off the P&G glasses... Should still be a good group but no way can you say its even or upgrade. No way.

OP gives good, insightful opinion using a combination of experience, depth and talent to judge the positions.
Tiger Rant's response: "You're fricking stupid. LSU upgraded every single position group."
Given the new information, LSU should easily go 11-1.
