This is from ESPN+. Guess who's No. 1....

BTW, Dylan Crews is ranked #14 on this list.

1. Paul Skenes, RHP, Pittsburgh Pirates
My No. 2 overall prospect in the preseason Top 100, the only negative parts of Skenes' scouting report for the last year-plus have either been searching for holes (his fastball shape wasn't the best for swings and misses) or the general injury risk that comes in the "pitchers who throw hard" category as a whole. After his heavy innings load during LSU's College World Series run last year, Skenes was handled gently early on in pro ball and is now being unleashed in the majors.
He has already added a new pitch less than a year after going No. 1 overall as the best draft pitching prospect in more than a decade. His mid-90s splinker is a mix between a sinker and splitter that basically has no equal in the big leagues due to the elite movement/velocity combination, and he has thrown it 29% of the time over his two big league starts. Skenes was already the best pitching prospect in the sport and just added one of the best pitches in the sport.

Needs to show their work.
The Johnson's handled him with kit gloves. I can't remember him being over-extended.

This is insane.

I’m not sure this mean what you think it means.

Is he even a prospect anymore when he’s pitching 6 scoreless innings in the MLB already?

Hate to break the news to you, but Paul Skenes is no longer a MLB prospect. Lol

Yes it’s “kid gloves” referring to leather from a young goat

Yeah...I was a little surprised to see that he's still on the list. I guess the thinking is that a top prospect could be bouncing back and forth between the majors and triple A in his first year, although I imagine Skenes will stick. The #2 prospect, Jackson Holliday, a shortstop for Baltimore, was up for 10 games and has been sent back down.

Scandalous.

I don’t really think he is saying he was misused or mishandled by Johnson. Just a fact that he threw a lot of innings for a college pitcher due to the deep postseason run. He threw the most innings of any college pitcher last year.

This makes sense. LSU played in the most games. Thanks.

I agree. I’m not saying he was overused. I don’t think the writer of the article is either.

It’s virtually unhittable.

this was my thought... when does he transition from prospect to Rookie?

Players in the big leagues are eligible for this update (MLB rookie eligibility rules apply here -- 130 at-bats, 50 innings pitched or 45 days on the active roster), but players projected to lose eligibility in the next week or so are not included.
Any player that hasn't accrued one or more of the above figures is still considered a prospect

Yes he is, he hasn't hit the rookie threshold.
James Wood will be #1 when Skenes is gone

Being considered a "prospect" is simply based on a certain threshold of innings pitched/played in the major leagues. It has nothing to do with how "ready" you are, or anything like that. So as long as he's under that threshold, he's still a prospect.
