it's not "just" St Aug, the African American community in New Orleans feels this way.
So Les is doing this to Tyrann "because he's black?" You gotta be freaking kidding me. How self centered do you have to be to personalize an issue that's got jack shite to do with you.

The New Orleans African American community really doubts Les' ability to take care of a black kid even after playing Jefferson over the white kid Lee for the last two years?

Evidently the community isn't sure that Les has TM's best interest at heart or his back, and are watching this with a keen eye to see if they wanna support LSU in the future.

I dont post often bit this is ridiculous! I honestly think this thread is starting to trend in the wrong direction. I understand both positions. We all know someone who has battled abuse of all types. Just the same we know those who has taken advantage of family and friends. For this kid to give up what he loves for a year really means a lot. Whether many of you admit it or not, TM7 represents the struggle that is prevalent in today's youth. He gives black kids in NO someone to look up to. It's not just about TM or black and white. It's about what this represents: the wayward son that's lost it all and I pleading for help.

Anyone that thinks Les Miles had a choice in whether or not Mathieu was dismissed is dumb. Who do they think is fighting to give him a shot in 2013. Has anybody ever doubted that Les truly loves and has total confidence in his players? Well, any player not named Lee.

St Aug used to hate LSU, I guess because of segregation. It was always tough to get kids from there. Marcus Quinn, Pershing Mero, Malcolm Scott, Waldon Cager were a few that did come here, mostly because we hired Otis Washington, their HC in 79, I think.

Im sure that a good reputation is always a concern by administration. But I highly doubt that they will pander to anyone including the people you speak of.

Magic 8 balls says yes:

I talked to some St Aug people today and this is BIG to them. They understood the dismissal, but now are looking at Tyrann's wanting to sit out a year as kind of a test to see if Les " has their kid's back," or best interests at heart. Letting him stay in school with the possibility of rejoining the team would be a huge PR plus in New Orleans.

Look...I'm as big of a hb7 fan as they come....but for frick's sake....do you realize what kind of precedent we would be setting if they let him come back???? Everybody from this point forward could completely ignore warnings....as long as they were "really sorry". Perriloux should have been given another chance.....right. You start backing off of repricussions and guess what....you lose ALL credibility with the kids...and all control. Its like the U.N.....or like a parent.....you don't follow up on what you say your going to do, and noone takes you seriously. H.B. Was given multiple chances. They told him the consequences, and he "didn't give a shite". Unfortunately, in my book, he now needs to lay in the bed he's made. This is bigger than HB7....this. Is about credibility and control.

By that kind of logic, the white community should be outraged that a kid like JL who did everything that was asked of him and then some was continually discriminated against in favor of JJ.
Some things just aren't what people make them.

Well put, rumproast. This is bigger than HB7 for LSU and it's fanbase. But HB7 is bigger than LSU to the community and St. Aug. That's the whole problem. It doesn't matter the possible damage to the university in destroying credibility or control with future recruits to them. Only that the kid gets to play again.

It is absurd to think that LSU wanted TM to sitout a year and then continue his football career so they just went on without him. When these things happen all parties get together and nothing that important is left to chance.
Either the admin. didn't want him to ever play for LSU again OR TM said he didn't want to sit out and was going elsewhere. If it was the former than he pretty much has no chance of returning so I don't think that is the case.
Only question in my mind is what did TM say during the meeting. Either FU or no thanks, in other words did he burn bridges that he is now trying desperately to repair.

Rumproast, do you realize that being suspended for an entire season is a pretty harsh punishment? Please go find me all of the NCAA players who have chosen to stick around at a school rather than transferring after being told that they had to sit out a year. It doesn't happen because sitting out an entire season is a severe penalty.

So, are they in a way "challenging" Miles, trying to get him to go out of his way for HB7? Rules don't really matter to them?
Posted on 8/13/12 at 10:04 pm to LSUfan4444
ESPN also reported LM to Michigan.
Posted on 8/13/12 at 10:05 pm to Choupique19
No doubt sitting a year is a severe penalty.....BUT.....if you explain to them that they will be booted for doind "x".....and they do "x" despite knowing the consequences....then no, in my opinion....a year suspension is not sufficient. Its like dealing with a 3 year old, you have to back up what you say. That's the only way you are taken seriously....and the only way your threats have any traction. So....the next superstar will know that you mean what you say.....rules ARE rules.
