My point is that giving Herman an ultimatum doesn't seem like a great strategy. If he says no, and Texas doesn't come through, his worst case is staying at Houston for a big raise.

Or he falls right into TAMU lap and is a thorn in LSU side along with Saban for years to come

If Herman is our guy now, fricking get him. Negotiating blah blah, give him an offer you stand behind or we are looking at O.

Yea seems like a bold strategy from Alleva if true. Sounds like a move you'd make if you are completely comfortable with your backup plan (Orgeron.)

I meant worst case for Herman, not for LSU.

I get the idea of floating he O stuff, but if its really true and its herman or O then what the frick is our AD doing. If herman and jimbo both go off the board then why not conduct a legit search?

LSU is saying we will not keep playing cat and mouse with you or like Flip said, "you are not tugging our dicks anymore"

Assuming this is true (no assumptions on my part) -- this would be LSU making noise about O being a serious option and asking Herman to make a quick decision.

You can't strong arm a coach with options. Just ask for a decision, and tell him you'll match Texas' offer, whatever it might be.

It is all about motivation. Herman wants big boy football. Houston is not big boy football.

Equal money you go to the better program. LSU wins.

Allowing Texas to jack up the price is not advantagaeous to LSU becuase LSU has already said we will not overpay. See Fisher. LSU will pay top dollar for Herman but not overpay.

Even if Texas fires Strong, Nothing says it is Herman's job. Texas will look at whales before offering Herman.

It's still unclear if he has an option on the level of LSU. This is the perfect time to press him.

Yes you can. It is all about leverage.

that is how you over pay. Very bad negotiation tactic. You are esstentially telling Herman to jack his own price up.

It isn't even just Jimbo or Herman versus Orgeron at this point. There are quite a few P5 coaches that would be better hires than O. There are zero reasons O should be a candidate for the job.
