Going over the game film with the team is the place for those things, not in media interviews. It is totally Sabanesque-classless and always blame somebody else.

In this game he once again was burned for big plays in the secondary-his specialty. But it was that play he points to.

He should have been honest and said " Well guys you know how big my ego is. I couldn't help but put my guys in man to man coverage and made two sub-par QBs look almost as good as I made that Frosh QB at Texas look last year. Or Matt Jones at Arkansas; or Sims at Texas, or Lorenzon of Kentucky..."

The man hasn't coached here since 2004 and yet we still have legions of fans who are enraged if you criticize him. Hilarious.

On the topic: That's something you say in a meeting, not in front of the media

Not even close to the same thing. A WR dropping a catch that turns into an INT is on the player. An entire team being fooled by a trick play on 4th and 1 is on everyone, not just the DE or LB who played the power run instead of the reverse that no one could've predicted.

you do realize that on every defensive play call different players are responsible for different things right? Backside contain is always one of them.

Since his days at LSU it has always been my impression that Saban does always seem to blame the players when he loses.

Seems like many others have that perception of him.

All of the clips I saw on the local news after the USC loss seemed to back this perception up.

just sayin

Part of being a coach is also being a teacher. Saban demands perfection. Nothing wrong with what he said.

But if this happens at LSU, it's Miles' fault for not "coaching them up" or instilling the discipline to stay home on that play.

so what if we come out and play tight? We won the damn game and Saban was very respectful towards LSU.

Saban said they didn't execute, Miles said he didn't execute. What exactly is the difference?

Miles said it was a "catchable ball" even though his QB sailed it over his head despite having no pressure and a completely wide open passing lane.

Miles could have said it was a tough catch to make (it was) or just not said whose fault it was (it wasn't Randle's), but he blamed Randle.

The point is that Miles is no different from Saban in that they will point out errors made by their players.

You do realize that when LSU players fail to perform as they should, it's ALL ABOUT OUR STAFF NOT COACHING THEM UP.

He said pretty much the exact same thing about Randle's missed catch against AU

And about QBs last year and earlier in the season. All coaches do that.

Some of our fanbase like the OP still obsess much about Saban and feel the need to belittle the former coach at every opportunity. Move on... he is not here anymore. Enjoy the great victory our team got.

My issue is trying to canonize Miles while degrading Saban.

I have no problem with anything each of them said (although I thought it was JJ's fault, not RR's), but to say one does it and the other doesn't is just false.

A missed pass (either QB or WR fault) is easier to point out because everyone sees it. Something like a missed assignment or not staying home on a 4th and one trick play is something the typical fan can't see...so in my opinion it's shittier for a coach to call that out in the media. Saban could've just as easily said "they fooled us on that one." But we all know saban would never say that.

Says who? I see plenty of players catching flack for missing tackles, catches etc. OP is trying to claim the statement Saban made was throwing his player under the bus........everyone knows what player missed contain even the player that missed it.....the problem is when you have stupid people in the media that ask stupid questions. Does Saban have to come out and say yeh that play caught us completely off guard and we didn't have it defensed properly? Everyone knows the play caught them off guard because the defense all went with the motion.

Not at all. I just get pissed at people for hating the guy that did so much for LSU. I realize he coaches the enemy but I will give him credit for being a GREAT coach. He got outcoached yesterday. Plain and simple.
