The way some people are acting, you would think beating a diminished NC team is worse than actually losing to a full strength NC team.

A win against at depleted NC team might not tell us everything we want to know about LSU, but for frick's sake I'll take it.

yep. if their team is demolished and they fall apart, we wont get points in the BCS formula for beating them.

Ideally, LSU beats them, and then N.C. goes 11-1 and wins the ACC champ game and is in the top few at the end of the year.
That maxes the BCS points.

Great, now if LSU wins the Rantards already have their built in excuse.

Yeah I know. Then again, they don't need much.

Here's the link to the story BTW, not a whole lot of info but it seems like something shaddy occurred (especially since they're asking for phone records and interviewing so many players).

No, its exactly what I stated. Beating a full strength UNC team is highly preferable to beating a depleted UNC team. This is very very simple.

I'm not arguing that point.

The Shruber's point is valid, as is Oldmanriver's. A win over a full strength UNC is prefferable to a win over a depletede UNC witch is preferable to a loss allways.

Given everyone's propensity to denigrate Miles' accomplishments, as alluded to by OMR, I would prefer the full strength win. I have no problem seeing pollsters repeatedly mentioning LSU's win "over a depleted UNC" in the season opener. That could follow us.

However, given the questions about our team, I would welcome a depleted UNC. We need wins in the worse way in order to build momentum and confidence in the TIGERS. If we get on a roll, anything is possible.

Say what they want, but if LSU somehow ends up 11-1 and wins the SECCG, they will play for the NC REGARDLESS of what kind of team NC fields or what anybody else says about that win.

I am not claiming a win over a depleted UNC team is worthless.....my claim is that a win over a hyped, 100% UNC team is preferable to winning over a mediocre, less than 100% opponent.

If you want LSU to return to the level of elite, you got to win some impressive games.

Seems to me that if we cannot beat a full strength UNC team, we are highly unlikely to beat UF or Ala and should expect one or two losses between Ole MIss, Ark, W. Va and maybe MSU.
MNC is the last thing I owuld be concerned about...

I don't disagree with you. My earlier comment was really directed toward the growing number of fans who will do ANYTHING to make Miles look bad or lessen his accomplishments.

I understand there are a few, but not most.

Honestly, can you tell me you think a 5 point win over UNC will impress you equally as much as a 5 point win over a 100% UNC team with all their highly hyped defense?

LSU needs the style points, even if it is just public opinion and to get some of the doubters in the fanbase back on track.

There is another scenario that you seem to be ignoring.

I disagree.

If LSU wins a close, ugly game vs a depleated UNC, and goes on to win ugly vs UF and Bama and everyone else, that would still be 13 wins, ugly ones, but wins. That case LSU is pretty much in the BCSCG.

If LSU wins with style over a fully healthy UNC, but loses to Bama and UF, it doesn't matter, no championship.

IOW, just win, however, and the rest will take care of itself.

With the OOC sched LSU has this year, as long as they win, they don't have to look pretty.

Lots of IF's.

A win over a full strength UNC team has advantages over a win over a depleted UNC team.

i dont give a rats arse if it's a watered down unc team.. especially if they brought it on themselves.. SEC schools need as much help as they can get in the OOC games considering how tough the conference games are

I guess all I'm trying to say is that with the SOS LSU has this season, I don't think they'll have to worry about style points.

I think what gmoney is talking about is the possibility of a loss.

Winning against a depleted opponent and winning ugly are still winning. Obviously, everyone wants to see our best beat another's best. However, it's hardly worth worrying about style points now if we beat a weakened UNC. The season will have to play out before there can be any rational conclusions made.

Everyone knows we play in the toughest conference in the country. Our national perception in the media will reflect our successes in the SEC (especially if we beat Bama and UF), not who and how we played in the first game. Concern about style points should be left to the Big East, ACC and non-BCS schools.

In the end a win is a win. If we get to the end of November and have one 11 games, noone will say, "oh but wait North Carolina" had a few players suspended.
