I completely agree

Being a national seed needs to be a reward and advantage

Having to use visitors clubhouse and dugout and not get last AB just seems dumb if you're hosting.

That said, I'll take it

Horrible rule. Glad we're home though.

What, they think that rule was made up specifically for them?

One change they made that I love are the walk up songs. Just forcing UNC fas to hear our hitters walks ups gives me some low key joy

The advantage is playing in your home stadium and opening against the 4-seed.

No other sport with a playoff that includes a series of games lets the higher seed be the home team the entire series.

I'd be ok with letting the #1 seed be the home team for as long as they remain undefeated, but I can't get on board with the idea that homefield advantage should just travel with the higher seed into and out of the loser's bracket.

They had that one UNC fan screaming at the ump the entire night and I heard pretty much every word.

“YOU SUCK. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE” then cuts to a commercial

no other sport plays a tournament format like this one either.

and what other sport has the higher seed as the road team in the deciding game 7 of the series?

UNC shouldn't be considered the 1-seed any more, they are Winners of Games 1 and 3 and Losers of Game 6.

If you want homefield to stick with a particular slot in the tourney, that's fine. 1-seed has homefield in Game 1, Winner of Game 1 has homefield advantage in Game 3, winner of Game 3 has homefield advantage in Game 6, is a reasonable system for a four-team tournament.

Higher seeded team in Game 1 has homefield forever until eliminated is not a good tournament format.

It’s the NCAAT, not the UNC Invitation. You “earn the right” to play in your home stadium in front of your home fans. You aren’t owed anything else. If college baseball had a bigger following all of these games would be a neutral sites, like the NCAA basketball tournament.

you want to rotate home/away during middle of regional, fine.

but being the #4 overall seed in the entire country NOT being home team in the most important game of the entire regional is absolutely ridiculous.

literally every other sport that plays series (MLB, NBA, NHL, etc.), the higher seeded team is home for the deciding game 7.

If you host a regional you should be home team especially if it gets to a game 7.

I think this is basically where I’m at. I don’t think the host should be the guaranteed home team for the entire regional, but I think it’s silly that they have to be the away team twice in a row for games 6/7.

IMHO it should alternate whenever teams are playing back to back games against the same opponent.

That being said, there are plenty of other advantages that come with hosting a regional so it is what it is. Ironically, being the away team yesterday might actually help them slightly today since they saved an inning of pitching.

Hosts do not have to vacate their locker room. At the very least an undefeated host should be the home team for the deciding game of the regional. I think the host should be the home team regardless of losses for the final game.

uhh every single NBA/NHL game played at the home team's court/rink the home team is treated as the home team

Baseball is the only sport the team playing at their home field isn't always the home team.

UNC's higher-seed is no longer relevant.

For tournament purposes, UNC is "Game 6 - Loser".

We can debate whether UNC should have been home team in every game up until now, but when you drop a game in a tournament you forfeit your prime slot. This is pretty standard at every level of sports.

the way the NCAA Baseball tournament is set up, it's still very much relevant.
that's why we're playing at their park and not ours.

if you want to go that route, then put me down as a maybe.

but literally every other sport that plays series, the team with the higher seeding/ranking/record/whatever is the home team for the deciding final game.
Not the team who won the previous game.

I can't blame them. I think LSU hosting tonight makes more sense than last night. I think it should be winners bracket team hosts vs losers bracket then flip if the losers bracket team wins.

So NC should have been the home team last night and LSU tonight.

NBA and NHL don't play all seven games at the higher seed's place.

The NCAAT has decided that being the host venue and opening with the 4-seed is a sufficient advantage.

But EVEN IF the NCAA wanted to give a larger advantage and give the higher seed homefield advantage throughout the winners bracket, it would STILL be a bad idea to let homefield follow a team into and out of the losers bracket. UNC is Loser-Game 6 and should be subject to the same home/away rules as any other Game 6 loser.
