Was a sophomore at LSU at the time. We all said it was a true watershed game for us to show we were back on the national scene and deserving of the respect started by the 2001 SEC Title. This game remains a top 3 all-time home game for me. May be hard to ever knock it out given the atmosphere, ramifications and of course the outcome.

Not sure how we lost to a Chris Leak led Florida team at home that year. He was a true FR too.

Offense just never got anything going that day. Plus Florida torched us on that HB pass up the middle for a TD. IIRC Ran Carthon was never touched.
Ole Miss and OU both had it open against us later that season.

Georgia fan next to me was dumbfounded. He was like you people are supposed to get quieter, not louder.

Maybe the most brutal LSU game I've seen in person. Those teams were punishing each other. LSU goes on to get even better over the course of the season, which is something I don't see anymore.

One of the loudest games I've been to. Especially when DJ Shockley came in for a series and got sacked 3 straight times in the South End.
When Green caught that pass in the north endzone, pandemonium erupted. Very similar to the 1988 earthquake game.
That year was supposed to be Richt's year to win a title. They had a dominant team that won the SEC the year before, and most of the team returned.

This was my first game. I lost my voice for days. I had a great time. My bother in law got us tickets in the UGA section while he was stationed in Iceland for while he was home on leave and that was OK. What a great first game!

Yeah, Saban's LSU teams would sometimes keep improving until they could not be beaten. It didn't matter who we played that year. USC would have been destroyed. We had three early losses the year we beat Tennessee, but by the end of the year our defense was strangling everyone. That was the year of the GOAT Miami team, but I'd have loved to see LSU play them.
I was surprised how Saban's Bama team petered out this year. Hopefully old age and a lack of motivation has caught up with him.

This is painful to watch. It reminds me how far we've come - if you know what I mean.

I'm having one of those "damn, I'm old" moments.

Agree that this was THE game that redirected LSU to over a decade of greatness. It was a classic dog fight (no pun intended) by 2 tremendously talented teams.

Wow, it's amazing looking at that. I mean, the rooting for LSU, the noise, it all came from the heart and soul.
It's still great today, but in contrast to just twelve years ago, so much at Tiger Stadium today seems programmed and superficial.

The loudest game I've ever been too

I'll never forget this game. After the game when the stadium was emptying there were fights on stadium drive that spilled over into the C motor home lots. Angry Georgia fans and drunk LSU fans who had never tasted success and didn't know how to handle it. crazy day.

And even better was the rematch beat down in Atlanta.
Georgia was whining about a no call hold on Henderson's kick return that set us up for the game winner. They claimed they out-played us and were out for revenge in Atlanta.
Then we went out and beat the snot out of them.

I agree with the board. This was in my opinion one of the greatest moments in LSU history. It certainly turned our culture from hoping to win to expecting to win. LSU had a history of blowing the big game. When I made the flight from grad school that Friday night I never seen so much excitement in the airports on both sides. UGA was the new powerhouse in the SEC at the time, as Florida and TN took a back seat to the conference.
I got in from the airport and friends drove me to campus on Friday night. The whole place was partying and camping outside the stadium. LSU chants all over at restaurants and bars. The feel that night was a confident one, and I never felt that before.
That morning was awesome. Started the tailgate at 6am. Everyone was on campus and folded game day. The Pollack hangs out in Coates Bathroom sign was introduced.
The stadium was crazy. The noise was loud, but one of the things that made it special was it was a sustained noise, like during timeouts the crowd kept getting nuts to support the program.
It was a defensive slugfest. After the game all my friends in other areas of the stadium met up and we literally just laid in a field resting, as it felt as if we actually played in the game.
The L-S-U chant after the 93 yd UGA Td was amazing. It was the first time i have seen lsu fans back the program at hard times when other times they would scatter for the exits or issue collective groans.
I really think it was the turning point in our program and maybe the best moment in lsu history, and I have been to the 2003 sect and bcsnc.

Funny how similar that game was to the GOAT in 2011 in Tuscaloosa with the red team missing 3 or so FG that would have won it. But the rematch that so many say was unfair in 2011 didn't seem to be that much of an impediment in 2003 as Sabans team waxed GA in their back yard while his team waxed Miles team in our back yard in 2011. Funny how those rematches turn out sometimes!!

Hate to say this, but I haven't seen anything close since then as far as a pregame atmosphere is concerned. 2007 Florida was great inside the stadium, but nowhere near as exciting pregame as the 2003 UGA game. Truly a special time that we are more than likely never going to see again.
