This game would be played only if either of the teams are in the running for the title i.e. if either team wins out. Assuming LSU wins out, beats UF on championship Saturday, they are the SEC champs no matter who wins the later game. Same for Florida if they win out and beat LSU.

What would be the purpose of even playing it at that point

I don't say this lightly,

this is the worst "thought out" idea I've seen in some time on here

To watch a football game. If only "meaningful" games need be played, then 90% of all remaining college football games can be cancelled right now.

I don't think you've thought this through. You're saying that if TN wins out, they don't even get a shot.

Seems like the most logical and likely scenario. Moving other teams/games affects too many people.

If tenn wins out and fla loses to LSU, then Tenn would be champs

Hell yeah, best idea yet. Let's take it a step farther. They can play the game at 5:00AM (for travel time and rest). Meanwhile Tennessee and Alabama are both in Atlanta. Now, if LSU wins, Alabama is eliminated, and can go home. If Florida wins, Tennessee is eliminated and they can go home. But in this scenario, we will say LSU wins. A charter flight is waiting, LSU hurriedly flies out to Atlanta and makes it in time to play Tennessee at 4:00. Problem freaking solved!!!!!!!!!!

Not trying to be mean, but this is the worst scenario I've heard so far.

So the SEC Championship game isn't played. Sounds like the SEC loses money. Won't happen.

There's just no way anyone would agree to this. Assuming the game ends up having SEC Championship implications, the only way playing Dec 3rd would work is the bowls and committee either agreed to push back the decisions for a week, or at least, if it looked like it was guaranteed that the SEC would get two teams in the New Year's Six, they agreed to leave two NY6 spots open and wait to announce which SEC teams will fill them and whether one of them gets a playoff spot or both end up in non play-off NY6 bowls.
