Would you feel silly for trying to imply that what Saban did in turning around Bama is similar to what Miles has done at LSU? B/c you would sound silly to anybody but your fellow travelers on this board.

I think you're missing what the other guys are trying to say. Jackson is but one example of a guy who in 2007, was labeled "Saban Player" when we won the NC because he was recruited and/or signed by Nick. Now in 2010 when he's sucking it up for the Chiefs, he's a "Miles Player" who can't hack it and was never developed. See the double standard?

It's the same idea some perpetuate that Matt Flynn never learned a single thing after his RS Freshman year, and all his success in 2007 was tied to Saban and Jimbo's coaching back in 2003-2004.

Yes.

I think the double standard comes from the general perception that Miles is a good recruiter but a sub-par developer of talent.

You might use TJ as an example of a player who showed lots of promise early in his career but didn't seem to progress much. From what I remember, though, by most accounts we had a pretty poor DL coach for Jackson's time here, so there may be where some of the blame goes.

Well, quit drafting players that succeeded in a 4-3 and trying to convert them to a 3-4.

Simple as that.

Another former LSU player that would have been a great NFLer in the 4-3: Marcus Spears.

Remember how athletic Spears was before he had to put on weight in order to play the 3-4?

this is why you traditionally don't spend top 3 round picks on 3-4 DEs, let alone top-3 picks

Dorsey shouldn't count as a bust. Going from a penetrating DT

he didn't do much penetrating his rookie year

but you can't coach a player whose biggest assets are speed and quickness

he didn't test out as that quick and was slow for his size, fwiw

There's only a handful of teams in NCAAF that run a 3-4 so they have to project 4-3 defenders into 3-4 positions. I think KC switched after they drafted Dorsey.

With DT's you can throw out all the combine crap. First couple steps are key. He had an INSANELY quick first step, thats how he was able to dominate interior lineman at the college level.

Yeah i think the person to blame is KC's defensive line coach. IDK why the buck stops at miles and doesn't extend to His new coach or back to his high school coach. I think Jackson played relatively well here at LSU and that is what miles is responsible for.

Also If gilberry replaces Dorsey that is good because he needs to be traded... to the saints... for jambalaya. (Look our Loomis here i come)

every college has busts. did you guys see the scout article on colt mccoy. says he is fighting for a roster spot. was once a heisman contender. won more games as starting qb than anyone in history.

eh, spears weighed 298 his senior year and is listed at 311 now...he was always a bigger DE

and he's perfect as a 3-4 DE, he's been solid, nothing special though

This about sums it up. Tyson looks the part but I sure was surprised they drafted that guy that low.

what does that say for k.c.'s d line coach? a player is not capable of developing after his senior year in college?

I thought Miles won the NC with Saban's players? Now, Miles is being blamed for winning the NC with Saban's players, but Saban's recruits (Miles' players)are not living up to their potential in the NFL
,

It's called The Saban Leadership Decay Syndrome. The one year he spent with the players was just enough to get them through the BCS in 07, but the effect wore off shortly after, at which point Miles bad influence took over , ruining their NFL careers.

Tyson Jackson was "evaluated" and BLEW away people like Mike Detillier. They were all saying b/c of his size and quickness he would be a great DE once h grew inot the position.
With that said, I am in KC this week and have been off an on since September last year as part of travelling and the people up here are screaming" WHY THE F are all the LSU players so bad. I hear it all of the time by my coworkers. They do NOT like Bowe b/c of his crap and the fact he drops the easy passes, but make the tough ones. Todd Haley is a joke of a coach IMO. He needs to be run... Another Bill B BUST, look at them all that have failed as coaches, Nick Saban, Charlie Weise, Romeo Crennel. The latter is now the DC for KC. This is little Pat town, but what they don't realize they won't be able to cheat like slick Billy did.
