Back to the point of the thread....I got an e-mail today from an Alabama fan at work (the kind that didn't go to school there but lived in Birmingham for 15 minutes so he's die-hard) with the subject line "Question" and the body of the e-mail was "What does LSU and sandcastles have in common?"

Which UL,,, ULL or ULM ,,, are you not aware of your name or are you just ashamed of it?? Or is yo jus stupid??? Caint member yo name?? Or maybe you think you deserve, after years and years of irrelavance, to be priviledged to, without any approval from any system,, rename your school whatever you want. How about THE Louisiana State University!! Or Louisiana University? Hell,,, come up with something better than UL,, DAMN, Louisville already has that one,, get your own if your gonna make one up.... a-hole. DAMN!!!!

I live in Pensacola where there thicker than love bugs and take as annoying. There everywhere and not a Damm one of them went to school there or could find it on a map. Never met a bama fan I liked!

USL applied to change its name in the early 80s and was granted that right by the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities but the Legislature overruled that after some lobbying from groups primarily associated with LSU (personally, I would be just as happy if it was called USL still). In 1995 that board changed its name to the University of Louisiana System. This includes Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Louisiana at Monroe, University of New Orleans. Only USL and NLU decided to change their names, although any school in the system can apply to.
