Tyler Shelvin in most Mock drafts is projected as the 10th best DT.

The choice to opt out is so puzzling as he ended hurting his draft stock. He had some serious potential but didnt get to show it.

I don’t know the rules, but could he return or has he already officially been declared? This is type move to cost your career imo. But who knows. Hope he succeeds.

I don't think it's puzzling, Shelvin never had much of a work ethic.

I suppose the reason he sat out is his own. Time will tell if it was a smart move or not. You can only hope young guys like this get good guidance for major decisions, and that it wasn't one person telling him how much money he could make if he went pro.

Best of luck to the young man.

Can’t really judge from a far regarding that. But I will say he has been out of shape according to most and what I’ve seen. Dude had great promise and wish he could potentially return.

His inability to get his weight down severely hindered his pass rushing ability, and DT's who can't pass rush arn't drafted high.

I don't think much would have changed.

Everyone knows it. Dude spent three years at LSU and couldn't keep the weight down enough to be what he should be. He really only contributed for one season.

Interior D line is the weakest group in the draft, and Shelvin a former 5 star comes in 10?

Wasn’t he just way overweight and not in playing shape? If that was the case, he might have fallen more by showing that off.

His lack of conditioning is his only downfall. He's got all the tools to be great.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up a UDFA. Was never just dominant on film plus an entire year off....big question mark

Shelvin coming back in 2020 was a bit puzzling to me. He made it thru all 15 games in 2019, which none of our other DL did. I thought he'd be off to the NFL last year.

I guess O and company sold him on becoming a more versatile prospect in the 4-3 (and not just a 2 down run-stopping nose).

How did opting out hurt his draft stock? I doubt it did. There is a belief, on here, that returning for an extra year automatically increases a player's draft position. That is not true. Shelvin showed enough that the pros know exactly what he is. LSU was moving to a system that was not a fit for him. He would have ridden the bench last year. That's why the big fat Utah NG left.

BS he worked his arse off before the 2019 title and was an integral part our championship team. GFY. Btw I see where many big stars opted out like Micah Parsons, Penei Sewell, etc, but the LSU players that did it are lazy quitters

So, out of three years he had a good month. Great. Thanks for helping prove my point.

Shelvin was never in good enough shape to give full effort beyond a game or three.

This isn't opinion.
