I can get close to that on the highway in my brand new GMC Sierra 1500. 35 mpg is much more realistic than the forced taxation these regs required.

Agreed. There is already legitimate demand for more fuel efficient cars and EVs.
Do I think we should have some regulations? Yes. Do I think that the cafe requirements don't really help anything? Also yes.

How far along are manufacturers in design and re-tooling to meet the previous standards? Two years into this administration with no good tell on the political future, will manufacturers scrap what they are currently working on?
Seems like this could turn into a very expensive yo-yo type deal.

In 1995, the average fuel economy across all new cars sold in America was 25mpg.
Today, it's 27.2 mpg.
A entire industry's longterm reliability and affordability was basically destroyed over 2.2 mpg....
In 1972, the standard economy was 13mpg.
The marjet naturally cured the problem that existed. Now it's just ridiculous insanity

Exactly. Let the market/consumer dictate fuel mileage.
Its also made vehicles less safe because of thinner windows and many other weaker materials. Plus ruined so many engines because makers use less lasting parts to lose engine weight. Everything is made to reduce weight to gain a count hair of fuel mileage. Just look at all the engine problems in recalls reported these days most are related to failing components that were made thinner or used worse metals.

They are selling a lot more land yachts and other suvs now than they did in 1995
What is the mileage improvement for sedans only?

My 1994 gmc 1500 would get 21-22 mpg.
34mpg is even unrealistic without a hybrid or small diesel. My diesel jetta only got around 40mpg on an interstate commute.

Remember, CAFE is the entire fleet. Not every vehicle the manufacturer sells has to hit that mark. It's the average of all vehicles.

I think the idea is that this will be used in conjunction with the West Virginia vs EPA Supreme Court decision that the EPA can not make laws without authorization from congress. Blanket regulations like this should absolutely be illegal without congress passing a law.
