Looked it up. Our current RPI is 39. Not bad. It was 49. Prior to this weekend I believe.

As sweep of Auburn maybe we get to 35ish. Need to win at least 1 against A&M and win 2/3 in last two series. We would maybe be a low 2 seed at that point.

The thing with the Auburn series is, even though they are bad they are going to be fighting for wins just as hard or even harder than we are. Just because they suck doesn’t make it a gimmie

We have 12 conference games left. We need to win at least 8 of those games, probably 9.

It really doesn’t matter who we get those 9 wins against…but we need 9. Eight wins might do it, but 9 wins will definitely do it.

Theoretically, we could get swept vs Auburn and still get to 14-16 by winning out. It goes without saying we would all like to get a couple of those 9 needed wins vs Auburn…. Sweep clearly preferred, but even if we just win 2/3 we will need 7 in the final 9, which isn’t impossible.

Let's look at possibilities.

To get to Hoover we need to end ahead of two teams. The most likely two are Auburn and Mizzou. That is our first hurdle IMO. Also the most achievable.

So Sweep Auburn and we are 8-13 with 9 games left and 6 games ahead of Auburn. Our remaining schedule is Texas A&M, @Alabama, Ole Miss. Win 3 of those 9 and we finish ahead of Auburn even if they win out because we have the tiebreaker. More realistic is we win 4 or 5 of those meaning 12 or 13 SEC wins. That is likely to get us to Hoover. Mizzou is currently 6-12 and play 12-6 Tennessee, 10-8 Moo State, and 9-9 South Carolina (and Auburn). They could easily get swept in two or 3 series. LSU simply has to win one more game than Mizzou to have that tiebreaker

Edit: I hit submit and had to edit to finish up my thoughts.

No you’re not.

Here’s the thing.. I’m sure the players want to keep playing, and if you’re playing you have a chance. Crazy concept but the point is to keep playing.

It’s a strange question.

Regardless of how the season has gone thus far, of course we are “in it” now. We’ll still be “in it” if we sweep Auburn. We’ll also still be “in it” if we merely win 2/3 against Auburn.

It’s a 30 game conference schedule, history shows we need to get to 13-14+ conference wins. Until those 13-14 conference wins are mathematically impossible, we’re still “in it”…. With “in it” meaning alive for postseason NCAA tournament

This is such a stupid fricking post. Yes, I want LSU baseball to win baseball games. If they can do this enough to make a regional (i.e. getting hot, winning SEC series) they will have the right to be there like everyone else. Why would you expect them to get their shite pushed in?

And what the frick is "some random regional"? There are 16 of them and all 64 teams involved will be playing for the same thing. There is nothing random about it.

Sweep Auburn and then win 6 of then next 9 to get to 14 wins. 15 would be a lock. 13 likely wouldn’t do it. Not enough quality wins (wins against ranked or teams with winning records).

They're a bunch of keyboard warriors. The same guys who say the team has no heart yet want them to just fold for the rest of the season. Most know little to nothing about baseball as well.

We would need some wins in Hoover, 13 probably gets us to Hoover.

Hell one year we went 13-17 with an rpi in the high 20’s and didn’t make it

Exactly. Ole Miss went 14-16 in 2022, lost their first tourney game and by all accounts were the last team to make a regional. I don't think 13-17 gets us in without making some noise in the tourney. Maybe some cache for winning the NC last year helps?

Look yeah I don’t think we’ll win it all this year, but I still want the chance in postseason.

And considering what we saw Ole Miss do 2 years ago, any fan should want the chance.

So yes I absolutely agree with y’all giving that poster a hard time.

Yes we all know we’ve sucked this year…. But only a miserable person would root against us trying to make the postseason. I’d rather make it and have a chance even if we lose the regional, than not make it…. Any “lsu fan” preferring to not make it is being stupid.

(I’m responding to you but my comments are clearly for the other poster IMATIGERFAN who said:

The Top 9 SEC teams are in, regardless of record. 13-17 will be Top 8.
