You're pretty ignorant. He wouldn't have been able to transfer to LSU after his freshman year at JUCO if he went there because he didn't qualify out of HS. He went there to play baseball, not because of grades.

LOL, so it's OK for those kids to frick with LSU to get what THEY want ? Again, F that. They were always gonna sign. AT some point he HAS to protect LSU interest at all costs, its HIS job on the line if he doesn't. And I hope he keeps doing it.And Watkins is gonna get drafted.

All acholarships in d1 athletics are for 1 year and renewed at the end of each year at the discretion of the coach. There is no such thing as a guaranteed 4 year scholarship. This is true for football and track as well as baseball and all sports When your kid goes through the clearinghouse it is one of the first things that you are informed of if you do not already know.

can you cite other coaches that have dumped 2 year starters going into their last season?

That's a pretty weak argument.

Watkins is a guy who "started" (even though he was unable to field one of the easiest positions) ONLY because there literally was nobody else of value on the bench to DH.

I was a Watkins proponent early in the year because I though he would eventually come around to the way he started the season last year. But he never did. His OBP fell off the table.

Whether a kid gets cut is 100% based on whether the coach thinks that kid has a shot to contribute. The unknowns on next year's team seem like a better option to Mainieri right now.

Welcome to college baseball.

And your hate for Mainieri blinds you. You would find fault with just about anything he did. SO your opinion is meaningless to me.

agree with you. It seemed like Skip didn't do this very much at all if ever. I am not sure how you keep your recruits if they see, if you have a bad year you will get cut. Matty Ott should not have survived if that were the case blowing all of the saves that he did... So to be fair, I beleive Paul needed to have a discussion after fall ball versus now.

Skip never had to do it because the game was different, even as late as Skip's last year.

Besides, it's not like he hit .367 last year, dropped to .322 this year, THEN got cut.

He was a liability at the plate and in the field. So while some of y'all complain about what PM did today - I don't want to hear you bitch and moan when we suck because he hasn't made any cuts.

Just because you are good enough to get signed by LSU - it doesn't give you a 4 year pass. Did any of you people play any HS sports? It's like the idea of cuts are foreign to you.

No, I just look at him realistically.

I find fault in everything he does wrong. He's obviously done some things right as well, otherwise he wouldn't have a National Championship.

I'm sorry that you can't appreciate an objective, informed opinion. Maybe you should take your purple and gold glasses off.

Well, do you know of many players who start for 2 years then get cut as a SR? What is weak about that?

I can save you the trouble, and tell you there aren't many.

My only guess is it was mutual. PM told him he may be a bench player next year and Watkins agreed to leave. I dont believe PM has that little respect for his players to just cut him like that without it being mutual, or him being a discipline problem

Exactly. mainieri said Watkins situation could change, he said NOTHING of him leaving. That came from a web site. As usual around here, posters jumping to conclusions to fit their interests instead of waiting for the FACTS to come out. Rantards.

For three years I referred to Trey as Willie Mays Hayes. With all that speed he should have hit for average rather than for the wall. If Mainieri made any mistake with Trey it was in not having him drop and give him 20 pushups each time he hit a pop up to short center.

This move at least gives the young man a chance to get on at another school, to continue his education and maybe improve his game. One can only hope he takes advantage of any future he has in collegiate baseball.

oh give me a break. this is college fricking baseball. he should feel privileged to have the honor of getting to play for a D1 school for 2 years. I would have given my left nut to bat .220 then get cut after 2 years.
