it occurs to me that they may not be expecting their WRs to do much downfield blocking, like Quinn was expected to do at LSU, and would likely be expected to do in the NFL.

It’s great that he’s putting up impressive numbers. But will those numbers make him a more valuable NFL receiver?

your post insinuates that he was asked to block at LSU but didn't/ couldn't. yet he and Diarse were being subbed in to I-formation looks in 2015 specifically because they blocked better than Dural and Dupre.

so if he can block and catch, I'd think that'd help his chances at the next level.

This what I don't understand though. Last season they moved Gage to wr. He's not that big and came in as defensive back.

they moved Gage over in 2016 after Quinn, Diarse and Tyron Johnson all xferred out. I imagine they needed bodies at WR at that point, particularly in spring.

and besides, was Gage even getting on the field in 2016 before Les and Cam got fired?

People need to understand it doesn't always work out as planned. Many players don't truly fit at a schools scheme, they transfer then end up having much success.

The hatred for him on here is sickening. I'm convinced people are jealous or in denial

I don't hate the kid, I honestly don't even care or think about him until someone brings a thread to the Rant saying "I told you so". The kid is putting up stats in a pass happy offense against inferior pass defenses. Good for him, now go have a circle jerk on the More Sports Board where it belongs. To me he's just like any other kid that quit the LSU football team, FORGOTTEN.

Nice. And numerous drops that blew the BAMA game.

I do remember his having one key drop in the 2014 game which, had he caught it, would have been good for a first down. That might have been the difference, because LSU would have been able to run off more time from the clock.

But there were other factors that cost LSU in that game too: the chintzy PF penalty on Vadal Alexander when the Gump obviously flopped (he was the Gump player who wouldn't let go of Alexander's leg after the play was over), several missed PI infractions committed by Bama, including at least one in the OT period, a blown call by the officials after LSU downed a punt at the 1 yard line (was called a touchback), and the kickoff out-of-bounds after LSU went up by 3 late in the game. The great starting field position gave Bama just enough time to get in position to kick the tying field goal to send it to OT.

Except for the fact that we punted, and on the very next play we recovered the ball inside the bama 5.......

Quinn should have caught that pass, but it didnt have an impact on the game in a negative way

that's what all the hate is from. wasn't exactly thrilled with it myself. if he would have caught it we could've just about run the clock out by kneeling. no sense in all these people saying he dropped a bazillion passes, but that one stood out.

What? We got the ball back one play later

you're thinking of a different drop. this was a drop on 4th down late in the game.

No, I am not

This is proof people simply are making up shite on this board. Two posters in the last 5 minutes remember something that never happened

I'm sure he'll do fine in the NFL but he's not going before the 4th round.

nobody's talking about the NFL. We're talking about college ball.

But damn, if Trey Quinn gets drafted in the 4th round - jackpot for him!!

Name a wide receiver that has played for LSU that hasn't dropped a pass. Can anybody in this thread name just one. And it doesn't matter who it is and when it happened, when it does happen, we, as LSU fans will damn near always feel like it happens in critical situations.

Trey Quinn isn't the first guy to make a mistake in a game and he sure as hell won't be the last.

We have to just ignore them lsupride. They are idiots. Quinn was an awful fit for the offensive scheme that Les/Cam ran here. He's the perfect fit for the SMU/Clemson scheme (probably should have gone to Clemson out of high school). They bash the kid for making the smart move and jumping the sinking ship being driven by Les/Cam because they had no desire to use a three and four wide receiver set. Quinn is in a much better spot now and it's LSU's loss, not his. Well, I guess he wouldn't get used much this year at LSU either, seeing as we can't pass protect long enough to complete anything other than a jump ball or a pass to a running back in the backfield.

The reality is Wide Receivers will have bad days and drop balls, QB's will throws interceptions, Lineman will miss blocks, the secondary will bust a coverage, its called football and bein human

I see players in the NFL dropping passes left and right every weekend and they are some of the best players out there.

nonsense. College players only have 4 seasons to play. If any player knows that his chances of getting playing time are slim, I don't blame them one iota for transferring.

Sitting the bench for his last two years isn't some noble feat. Kids want to play.

This happens everywhere, not just LSU. Doesn't mean he quit on LSU - he just wants to play. And I feel the same for Diarse, Brandon Harris, etc.

What is funny is the fact that both our football coach and baseball coach "quit" on lsu in their respective sport

Thanks for clarifying. I had forgotten that's when we recovered the fumble at the five. Then you're right, Quinn's drop on that third down didn't really have an impact on the game.

Can't think of any. I can name one that dropped a pass, got his feelings hurt and took his ball and left his teammates.
