My biggest complaint with Brady is and has always been that we only advanced in the tournament in 2 years out of 11. Not good enough IMO.

Hopefully we can get to a point where making the tournament every year is virtually a given and we can expect to win at least a game every other year. I don't think that's too much to ask.

...in what appeared to be an effort to underrate Brady and overrate Johnson.

You were back to blowing the coach of ARKANSAS STATE whose only claim to fame is a MIRACLE Final Four run.

Johnson has made as many NCAA appearances and NIT appearances AND Sweet 16 appearances in 9 years as Brady has in 17 years. Except Johnson has done it at two schools - one being Nevada.

Johnson's pre-LSU resume completely destroys John Brady's. It's not even close.

We'll see what he can do.

Rather than going through all 15 pages, has Trent Johnson been hired officially yet? True or False?

Brady created NO excitement with LSU BBall.
Factually incorrect. SEC titles are exciting; owning Arkansas is exciting. Going to the Final Four is exciting. Brady did all of those at some point. Did he suck? A little too often, yes. But to say he created no excitement is to be too nega.

Anytime Brady had any momentum or excitement after having a good team, the program stayed exactly where it was during his entire tenure - nowhere.

He had good teams. He built no program.

Trent Johnson is not exactly a household word in NCAA men's basketball.

And how did he appear on the LSU radar screen so suddenly ?

Whereas, John Brady coached Samford to a losing season his first year, never got them into the postseason at any time. Then when fired from LSU had led them to back to back losing seasons

As glad as I was to see LSU dismiss Brady,it is unfair and inaccurate to attempt to portray is tenure at Samford as a failure. Samford was a member of a one bid league at the time, the TAAC. His teams twice won the regular season title and under today's scenarioes would then be awarded an NIT berth.

Now to have modest success at Samford doesn't necessarily make one the heir apparent to an SEC school, either. But Brady did do relatively well at Samford.

The reason people didnt like Brady is because he was inconsistent. TJ is very consistent based on his record and everyone at Stanford seeems to respect him.

.......and he was arrogant with his excuses and running players off. Not that some of them didn't deserve it, but some did not.

Excitement = asses in seats at the PMAC. You don't get that?

Brady was barely over .500 at Samford, never had a 20 win season and - regardless of how current scenarios would be different - never made the postseason. And just like at LSU, for every two winning seasons, he had a losing season.

It's not about seating capacity and attendance. It's about hardware. I don't need company to get excited about LSU basketball. If I'm the only one at the PMAC, I'm still foaming at the mouth.

I emailed a friend of mine who worked in the athletic dept at Stanford asking why would he leave since he was a west coast guy. Here is his response...

quote:

Throughout the entire year it was just assumed that he was going to get a contract extension. Our AD even talked about sitting down after the season and working one out. The 08-09 year would have been the last on his contract. My guess was that he got fed up with the new AD wavering and decided to leave. Stanford was pretty much his dream job, but he obviously knew he could make more money elsewhere even when he accepted the job 4 years ago.

Ok, but what's that do for the program.. You think that looks attractive to a recruit? Empty seats and a dead arse arena?

Exactly. A West Coast columnist was writing about this a few weeks ago and even pondering the possibility of Mike Montgomery returning to Stanford to replace Johnson.........then Montgomery got the Cal job.

Johnson certainly was available. He looks pretty good coming in. No objections from me. Welcome, Trent, to LSU and Baton Rouge and...........
