It was known? By whom? Link me. He’s spent the majority of his career in the college game, didn’t have to leave KC/NFL, was excited to get a big boy college job and took it.

Pitt was in a ton of transition (Wandset, Graham, Chryst) and he stabilized that defense . In year 1 they gave up 365 ypg, year 2 was 360, they actually slightly improved.

I’ll give you FIU I guess. He came in for 1 year and had little to work with. Did improve win total by 1.

Kentucky, well big swing and miss for you there obviously.

Not sure why you’d ding him for going to KC as a position coach and winning a Super Bowl (and appearing in another).

I had the same questions bc things get repeated on here and taken as gospel.

But it was said by Mark stoops after he left Kentucky

Stoops talks about House commitment to college game

According to this article, he's the 3rd highest, but the sentiment is still the same.

Not really. He had one good year and bolted, and UK has been stout on defense since he left. That is more of a sign that the system he was in was helping his success rather than just him being a phenom.

He's not awful, but his track record is not some amazing proof of greatness of increased consistency.

I don't think he is as bad as some believe, but he's not a great DC and likely is best suited to be a DC under a defensive minded head coach.

Smart stayed under Saban for a long time and has been successful because of it with pretty solid defenses where ever he went. Aranda consistenly put up good defenses, and wasn't a flash in the pan. Venebales is the same. The anomaly year for a guy like Venables is where his team is mediocre to bad, not the one time they are good/great. The ones that jump around like House did generally have not been that successful if its one year.

Who would you have hired? DC market isn’t exactly robust, best Bama could do was Kevin Steele.

Good post, this had to be the case. Against OM I saw wide open receivers with no one around them by 20 yards or so.
