Came across this interview with Tre Morgan on the bunt out at home. Said he ran the wrong play. He was supposed to stay back and cover while Skenes was going to cover the first base line.

Said he missed the sign and didn’t realize until after the game when Milazzo pointed it out. He “messed up in the best way possible”.

Tik tok link. Interview with Tre Morgan

Yeah this is pretty wild

If he wouldn't have messed up and ran the right play we lose

Destiny is correct, and Truck admitted he was looking for fast ball on two of his HRs and didn’t get it too. Love both of them.

Luck is a major component in most national championship runs. And LSU definitely enjoyed its share of good luck in the postseason.

I'm glad he "messed up", not only because it worked, but because what he did was the only play that made sense. In the 8th inning of a scoreless game, facing elimination, how do you ask your first baseman to stay back? You have to know the bunt was coming, and not having the corners crashing would have been gross negligence, in my opinion.

Came to say this. Like Tre said, they can’t hit skenes lol. He read what he thought was the obvious call there. Love that it turned out the way it did

Well it worked out, if Skenes would have fielded that ball not sure he makes that play at the plate.

The first and third basemen both crash only when the bases are unoccupied with runners. When runners are on the corners, third base is typically the only one that crashes while the pitcher covers the first base line. Doing otherwise would leave one of the bases unoccupied

When the game is on the line and a runner is at 3rd both better crash and leave second base open

In a tie game with aces on the mound and facing the top pitching team in America, maybe Alex is the one who missed the sign.

Or maybe Trey assumed a different sign, because he knew the runner at 3rd is the only thing that mattered.

Either way, it was a fantastic legendary play.

Skenes easily gets to the ball, but by that time, and with the awkward RH throw home, there is no way he comes close to getting the runner. It was a good bunt direction; it just had too much energy.

This season has been so much fun. Hearing all these stories after the fact just makes it better (Morgan’s “mess up”, Belloso trolling Skenes, Snatcher Hurd, etc)

Luck is huge but you still gotta make the play.

Did Skenes miss it too?

Didn’t appear to be moving on the ball as he should if the play was his to make.

I’ve detailed it before, Tre was late on his break, so if Skenes had the rough call he should have been on a collision course with Tre.

Edit. Skenes didn’t miss it. There was almost a collision lol

Why would you think it matters if base is unoccupied? The second baseman and shortstop are still up the middle, so it's not like the runner on first can just walk to second base, simply because no one is holding him on. And on a bunt play where the corners are crashing, the second baseman will run to first and the shortstop covers second. Getting the out at home is clearly priority number 1. I'm not sure why you think that would be unusual, or that a base being unoccupied in that situation, matters.

When the runner on 3rd could end the game (and your season) by getting home you don't give a crap about someone reaching first.
