I have contended that Dennis Shaver has let our T&F Program slide down and down.

This weekend, a program that spends millions, is on the road to Miami.

For WHAT??!!??

See for yourself who they were facing:

Florida A&M

Miami with few runners and field people not compeititive

North Carolins with same lineup as Miami

FIU

Bethune-Cookman

So we transport a large group to Miami, to run and throw against paltry competition?

About the only thing that Shavers seem to manage:
a) His tan;
b) His mustache;
c) Picking papers on the periphery of the track

I wonder if Alleva noticed! Skip hired this guy but Alleva seems to let it cascade down and down....

Watch: When the big meets come up, the details will kill them and DNF's and dropped batons will provide another "aw shucks" for the mustachio'd Shaver.

See..........it's not just Yvette!!

Alleva feels that individual TF NCAA championships are just as good as team championships.

That’s why he allows Shaver to simply draw a paycheck and not worry about recruiting and building a complete team.

We win a few sprint NCAA’s occasionally, that’s fine with Alleva and hence Shaver.
.
Of course, Alleva is rationalizing to mask his incompetence and laziness, so it is what it is.

As a long time supporter of T&F, Coach Shaver needs to be replaced. We didn’t even fill out our fulllimit of athletes on the men’s side. Worse I’ve seen in a very long time ie Mid-80’s. Very sad.

So, I had the pleasure of running for Coach Shaver. I’ll stay away from politics of if he is the best fit or not, I’ll just say two things that need to be added:

1)He is a tremendous person, who puts a detailed approach to each athlete, and I’ve never watch someone work as hard as he did. The hours he works were insane, and a lowlife walk-on like me, he cared not only about my training but about my personal life. He has attended my Marine Corps events post college, and been there for me. Unfortunately this board reeks of constantly challenging his character and care for the program, and I can assure you if you knew even a little, you would find him in a completely different light.(I’ll add I worked for him post-track as well, and had the same observation).

2)Short and sweet: The Miami trio was a way to keep us from the burnout during the long track season. It’s not meant to be great competition, we already have a rigorous schedule all year.

A top recruit and probably-future NCAA champion Ruby Stauber transferring out of here pronto and headed to Oregon says all you need to know about Shaver and the state of LSU TF.

Dude take a chill pill the woman’s team is ranked 5th and the men’s 10th in the country . What did Shaver do to you run off with your girlfriend my goodness. You should be worried about the Republicans spending your tax dollars not the track team .

I think everybody can agree with this, but bitching about the team going to Miami is just plain stupid.

Just because you're not into it doesn't mean that they don't deserve the best treatment. They work just as hard as the other athletes on campus.

Lol, wut? So surely the same must be applicable to the other schools' head coaches that lost top performers as transfers to Oregon, right?

1A. Walk on here as well - Shaver gave me a nice shoutout for a PR during a trip. Wasn’t expecting it at all. Was thrilled to even get to travel.

2A. Miami trip is hella fun.

There may be things to bitch about about T&F but this isn’t one of them. Lsu has always treated spring break week almost as a destination trip for the athletes even when Pat Henry was here. They always go to ASU or Miami, etc even if it’s not the best competition. Like someone else mentioned it gives the kids a break while still having a chance to compete. Also didn’t see you bitching when they took their annual trip to ULL.

Mid 80s teams were good. Both men and women were in ascendance and building towards the Nattys that came later. Pat Henry took over a very good program.

GTFO of here with that petty BS.

T&F. Who cares?
Women's BB. Who cares?
Gymnastic. Who cares?

If you're an LSU Alum or authentic LSU fan, you should care about all LSU Sports and want SEC Championships in them all every few years.

No excuses except for coaching negligence and dysfunction. (And AD apathy/MA)

He needs to fire Todd lane. Lsu’s model of dominating sprints and jumps to win if all is an obsolete way of winning a championship. There’s too many strong sprinters now. Worst of all though LSU gets no points in jumps anymore which was something we were nationally recognized for

We were stripped of a women’s championship in 2012 and really haven’t been the same. He took over the premier Women’s program in T&F history and can’t compete point wise with Oregon, TAMU and others. Look at the history and finishes of the women’s program since he took over. We have not been the same.

As far as the men’s side, he has 1 indoor title in 2004. The year he took over. Zero SEC titles even when Pat Henry was in the Big 12.

He is a good jumps coach and that’s it.

As far as blame, all of this is on Skip Bertman.

Shaver doesn’t coach jumps. Never has at LSU.

He’s one of the top sprints and relays coaches in NCAA history. Go look at the all-time NCAA lists and see how many marks were coached by Shaver.

And for the OP complaining about the team competing in Miami, how is that different than Pat Henry traveling to UTSA, Houston, and a garbage meet in L.A.?
