His failure to change after how the 2015 season ended with speculation about his future says it all. LSU is just as much to blame too.

You ever tried to tell a successful 60 year old how to do something? He won many games his way and wasn't going to change no matter what.

that stupid extension LSU gave him when his agent floated the Arkansas rumors is unforgivable

i'll say this, Les knew how to work the booster crowd and always had the "recruiting" trump card, where people felt like if we didn't retain Les, we'd lost that top 5 class he had assembled and we'd never get another (why? not sure)

I think since we couldn't develop a QB properly, what Les saw in practice when we "opened it up", didn't give him the confidence to do it during a game. When he had decent QB play, like Flynn, Jamarcus or Mett, he threw the ball. Couple that with Jarrett Lee's UGA performance and you have the answer.

The question is why he didn't hire someone that could develop a damn QB.

You think Lee being a pick six machine made Miles never want to pass the football again?

we basically eliminated throwing in the middle of the field, even with Mett in 2013

Loved Les (and still do). Easily in m top 3 LSU coaches all time with Dale and Skip. I just wish he had hired a Canada type OC and finished out his career here.

Really made him "simplify" the offense, ie: i form, toss dive, where tf is the TE, THROW IT OVER THE MIDDLE!

Miles pretty much let Crowton do his thing in 08 (pick sixes aside, the offense really wasn't that bad, mallvetto (also 100% on Les) was the biggest issue which also played a part. After 08 it was basically the same offense through the beginning of last year though Cameron brought in a few downfield concepts and had that 2013 skill group + Mettsiah on a platter.

It was real sad seeing that this was part of the argument in hiring O. Preserving a recruiting class

What was often hilarious was how the offense would open up when the team was in a tremendous hole during the game.

09/10 were 2 weird arse years

we were trying to do a neutered zone-read game

we were trying to turn JJ into a running QB

we still almost completely relied on big plays for our passing game

And Harris almost coming back against State, only to get mindfricked at Auburn. Les really couldn't handle QBs worth a damn.

13 was frustrating too as the D took a giant step back just as the offense finally arrived. The gif of the white guy blinking his eyes was me watching the UGA game that year.

Good one, but I was thinking of more recent examples like State 2014 and Arkansas 2015, when the offense was about as simplified as it has been in the Miles era outside of maybe a few games.

At the beginning, it was because only Alabama was beating him. The last couple of years, it morphed into a paranoia of losing because of a passing offense, and outright hostility with the section of the fanbase who wanted a passing game. I still believe, in the bottom of my heart, he thought Alleva wouldn't fire him his last year and Les made it a point to give that vocal section of the fanbase the finger.

We came out the gate real strong then Les decided to feed fricking JC Copeland instead of letting Hill finish the drive. Ballgame.

That was a unfortunate play. JC was literally on his way into the endzone, and got stripped at the last second.

9-6 is the worst thing that happened to Les in terms of his coaching philosophy.
In his mind this cemented the notion that his ground-n-pound could be THE WAY to beat every team.
This is wrong. Jarrett Lee ruined Les if anything did. Les feared turnovers more than anything in football.

The biggest problem in hindsight was that Les overworked the team during the weak. The first thing O changed was cutting back practice time during the weak. They just had exhausted legs on game day. The OLines under-performed year after year, and it's understandable now why they did. It was inexplicable to us fans at that time. We just didn't know how much they were expending during the weak.
