I think some people don't realize what kind of production we lost last year at the plate in Bell,Simmons, and Kloss.
definitely could use bell and kloss power right now.

Here's the TRUTH. Bailey Landry is an All American. Against SEC teams, take her out of the lineup and the rest of the girls are hitting .198. Springfield is 2 for 29, that's .069. Doyle is 3 for 22, .136, Griggs is 7 for 40, .175, Thornhill is 1 for 9, .111, Walljasper is 2 for 13, .154. Serrett and Quinn are at .219 and .212. Andrews .364 and Jaquish .318.
Hitting really is that BAD.

Left out a couple, Sanchez is hitting .160 and Dawson is hitting .300 in SEC play.
Trying to be positive we do have a few players with pretty good OBP's. Some of these hitters are finding ways to get on.
Jaquish: .634
Landry: .545
Dawson: .417
Andrews: .391
Sanchez: .323
Nobody else is at .300.

I can find one positive, We do a good job of working the count and making pitchers throw a lot for the most part. So we are able to get a lot of walks and hit by pitches.
We have been able to get people on base, the issue is hitting when people are on. We really need to continue to utilize our speed with runners on. We don't have power right now that can bring in all these runners. We may need to go a little more small ball approach with how much we are struggling hitting.
They need to utilize this Mcneese game to try a couple things before this Ole Miss Series, which we should win. I would like to have things cleaned up a bit before Tennessee comes into town. That series is going to determine if we host a national seed or not so its absolutely crucial that we are at our best

It's time to unleash our secret weapon in Layna Savioe!(I am being sarcastic here people so don't jump on me just having fun with it. I do hope for real we can get our offense going soon.)

Here is what I want to try against Mcneese
1. Andrews-CF
2. Dawson-DP
3. Landry-RF
4. Jaquish-3B
5. Doyle-1B
6. Serrett-SS
7. Quinn-2B
8. Satchell-C
9. Griggs- LF
Regardless if it works or not, I would like to see how this goes, you have nothing to lose really.
At this point we just need people on base at the top, Andrews is hitting her way on. Dawson is scattering hits here and there and has been very patient which I like. I wish she would be a little closer in the batters box but other than that I liked what I saw.
Also Doyle needs to be in the games at all times, her issues aren't swinging mechanics that will hamper her in every game its her mindset at the plate. We need to just take our lumps with her right now. She definitely has the highest upside at the plate on this team short of Jaquish. She has hit good pitching this season. She also brings power that no one else brings right now aside for Jaquish and Landry. It will click eventually but I think we need to continue to push with her. Her bat will be critical come post season, zero reason she shouldn't be playing at this point.

You nailed it. I also believe that is the best 9 we can put on the field at this point when Jaquish is at 3B.

The one good thing about being an assistant, and not the head coach, is criticism rarely filters past the head coach, and when it does, the assistant is still under the authority of the head coach.
The batting coach...its time for him, if he hasn't done anything, to do something. i know, at the USM game, he does talk to the players, its not like he sits on his butt and lets things go as they may. He is involved.
What he is tasked with now is FIXING the swings and issues of a few batters and completely overhauling the batting style of others.
Its common knowledge among pitchers, when they see someone crouched but with the bat straight up, to throw something a little high and inside. Such a batter tends to dip, and that is what Springfield does. She is way, way too long on her swing.
Others have issues standing too close or too far away from the plate. Small stuff. Griggs is too far away. Dawson is as well. Serret sometimes scoots a little too close and jams herself.
Going to be interesting to see what the batting coach does, and believe me, if he doesn't do anything, a lot of us will most certainly notice it.
If you want to see an example of a team who has a coach that influences ALL of his players and how they bat, watch Oklahoma...they elevate, they shift their weight...all the same way, and any one of those girls can put the ball out.

One more thing... years ago, softball was all west coast, Oklahoma and Michigan.
People look back and see the years that Monica Abbott pitched and say that was the beginning, the rise of the SEC into the thick of things in college softball.
Of course, that is true, but those years, that team, Tennessee, the thing that set them apart was they were one of the first true swing-away teams in the SEC that moved away from slapping and produced hitters in the mold of Nicole Pendley and Lauren Chamberlain.
LSU is going to get left behind if it has a lineup with four slappers on it. Weinberger is a very good player but she is a slapper, so are a lot of the others. I sure hope that changes with the incoming class. Once we lose Bailey, Jaquish, and Quinn, we need some new players who swing, not slap.

I was just thinking this. It is going to be interesting next season, but we still have time to fix things up for this season.

yes and all those players we got sitting, they gonna have to step up. Going to be interesting.
Heck, look at Georgia... they might lose four series in the SEC this year. not too good

Georgia's schedule has been complete hell. I feel for them a little bit, but they are one of those teams, if given the right draw, can make some noise.
