Also when the bases are loaded, a touch slapper is much easier to defend. That's why you will see Beth pinch hit for a slapper at times with the bases loaded.

Example a couple of years ago we played a team with 7 slappers. We won 2-1, but they had 12 hits (10 were slaps in the infield) and left bases loaded 4 times. Each time they left the bases loaded, a touch slapper was up.

The one run? A solo home run.. lol

Just to put it in here softball game tonight might be in serious jeopardy. I know the game is still a few hours away but it is fixing to pour in Lake Charles.

I do not hate this. Let Allie and Carley rest. Keep working on the bats before Ole Miss!

We've been getting it pretty good in Houston today. My HS game was rained out again. We're getting so far behind that it looks like we're going to have to play 7 games the next two weeks before playoffs.

Plus, now that I have Mom settled in at her new home at memory care, I plan to finally get to BR for the Tennessee and series.

We have a beautiful schedule to end the season. Our national seed is going to come down to the Tennessee series and winning a game or two in the SEC tournament. If we can win or sweep the series, take care of business against everyone else. Win a game in the SEC tournament I think we will make a good case. Alabama and Tennessee have pretty rough schedules to end the year.

We need to take care of business though, hopefully we can utilize this week to try to sort through some of our batting issues.

You contradict yourself. Bailey Landry is a slapper. You either like her or you don't. You cannot group all "slappers" together anymore than you can group players of different tool sets together.

I love Bailey Landry - she's a "hitter". She is no longer a "slapper".

Your entire post was pretty vitriolic. Note, I said IMO.

I see. Your definition of a "slapper and all its variations" is what matters. Nobody else can attempt to define a "slapper". You, more or less, just stated that any hitter in baseball or softball is a "slapper".

See, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one - you and me no exception.

"Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uhhhh, your opinion, man" - The Dude. See the movie...

quote:

You have power slappers and you have touch and go slappers. You have slappers that are somewhere in between. The good ones succeed, the bad ones don't just as any other offensive approach at the plate does. Teams need base runners to be driven in and speed slappers can provide this. Some of these same slappers can then drive the ball when needed, some cannot.

The idea that one style is obsolete or that a certain style is more successful is totally dependent on the skill set or "tools" of the player utilizing this approach. You painted with a broad brush and included some very uninformed statements while painting.

"Uninformed"? You are so lame with your insults. I will be sure to avoid you in any future threads. I do not use a fine hair thin brush or a 6" paint brush. I ordinarily would not have posted a reply. However, in this case, you are seemingly pretty intent on slamming my previous reply. See, your lame arse words like "uninformed" totally matter.

What your attempt to describe a "slapper" could mean to you is that Babe Ruth was a "slapper" with 60 HR (albeit a power slapper in your verbage). Note he also drove singles to the opposite field with half swings.

What that could mean to you was that Hank Aaron was a slapper with 61 HR (albeit a power slapper in your verbage). Note he also got half swing singles throughout his illustrious career.

See, your def. of slapper and my def. of slapper are not quite the same. How many HRs of your def. of "power slapper" does the LSU softball team have at this point? Bailey Landry has graduated from being a "slapper" to being a "hitter". IMO. Wanna argue with that? Go ahead. I am looking for "hitters" to improve the success with our LSU softball program. Not "slappers". Again, just IMHO.

LSU needs "hitters". All top softball teams have them. The NCAA college softball champion will have "hitters". Yeah, not "slappers". "Hitters". Stick around. You and 18 Just hide and watch.

I just posted my opinion. Will not respond further in this thread. Back at you with

Hide and watch?? What does that mean??

All I said is that there is a place for slappers in the lineup, but the game changes over time as I have seen that in my 30 years of coaching fast pitch. I think there is a place for all types of hitters in your lineup. I like a couple of slappers to create pressure on the defense to set up the power hitters to drive in the runs. I also pointed out an example where slappers don't help the line up.

Everyone has their preferences and I respect all of them.
