quote:Ease off. Lets not turn this into a pissing contest. He's just saying that older more established coaches are typically as aggressive and hungry as a young up and comer. I agree with you though.
So would you say that Nick Saban and Urban Meyer are now worthless coaches?

I don't understand how one season of success in the American Conference, translates to a genius coach.
He might very well be one of the best offensive minds in football and a phenomenal coordinator, but he still hasn't proven much at all.
If you want an offensive minded coach who has actually proven that his head coaching success isn't a fluke, then go get Larry Fedora from UNC. He has three of the best assistant coaches in college football and is just as much of a record-setting coach as Herman.

Have people forgotten the criticisms about his rush rush pass punt offense
In Fisher's defense he has sent EJ Manuel, Christian Ponder, Jamarcus Russell and Jameis Winston into the NFL as 1st rounders.
While I know they were world beaters in the NFL, he clearly developed them into extremely competent College QBs.

I understand what he's saying, but experience in big games has to count for just as much, if not more, than hunger and desire.
You can fight like hell all you want just to get to the big stage, but who's to say that you don't become overwhelmed by the spotlight?
I think some individuals presume that most coaches become content once they win a title because the respective coach has, in a sense, reached the pinnacle of their profession.
However, there have been too many coaches who have won multiple titles for me to ever side with a 'hungry' talent over a seasoned, battle-tested veteran.

Why should Jimbo be The Man? Have people forgotten the criticisms about his rush rush pass punt offense? Other than the final 6 games of 2001 his offenses didnt exactly set the world on fire. And he has a NC and has nothing left to prove like an up and comer.
Agree with all this.

The best part about Herman is he really doesn't have any ties to anyone. It's not like we are gonna always look over our shoulder saying if such and such came calling he'd bolt. Like Miles with Michigan, Saban with the NFL, Dabo with Bama, etc. Some people have said Texas but he doesn't have any ties there.

What they did last year at OSU was pretty impressive. And seeing OSU's offense struggle this year with the same guys shows maybe Herman had something to do with the success.

That is a damn strong resume

Not trying to throw a wrench in the gears, but if I'm Herman I'm not sure I take the LSU job. Va Tech to me would be a great fit and less pressure.

Recruiting has got to be so much harder there.

quote:I agree. Look at what he did at Ohio State when his starting QB, then backup QB went down. If that's not shining bright in the biggest of moments, then I don't know what is. It also doesn't hurt that Herman is a member of Mensa International.
I understand what he's saying, but experience in big games has to count for just as much, if not more, than hunger and desire.
quote:Agree 100% but again what he did at Ohio State in '14 cannot be overstated. He's not you're everyday run of the mill football guys. He's literally a genius.

quote:I agree, but Jimbo is our only candidate that fits that bill. If we can't land Jimbo, I believe Herman would be a hell of a 2nd option.

He then took a position in 1999 at the University of Texas at Austin as a graduate assistant under the mentorship of Greg Davis. During his tenure at Texas, Herman worked with the offensive line, which produced two All-Americans.[1] He also earned a master's in education from Texas in 2000.

So this is what it's come to? A guy that has 1 year head coaching experience. 1 year at the university of Houston...

You realize at one point even Vince Lombardi was just an "unproven assistant"

Not sure I agree. The Tidewater area has historically been a fertile recruiting ground and they have a great fan base. Beamer is leaving on good terms and fans are much more patient there. I think he would excel in the ACC and would attract some top talent.
