They just said on Bowl Mania that Todd Blackledge will be in the booth for the Cap One Bowl. He graduated from Penn State. Don't expect an unbiased call.

quote:

Blackledge was a three-year starter at Penn State, where he guided the Nittany Lions to 31-5 record including a national championship in 1982. In 1983, he was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played for five seasons (1983-87) before ending his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1988-89).

Honestly, if anything, I'd think he'd try to go the other way to show he's not biased.

this is fantastic and clearly you've never listened to Blackledge announce.

He's extremely professional and the best in the business imo. I don't think there will be a problem at all, unless all the rantards are looking for one.

I'm made up with this news.

I really don't think that there's an announcer out there that people would approve of...it seems that whoever is calling the game is biased.

Some people can never be satisfied.

Blackledge will give some Paterno stories to give you insight of what is the reason they did something. But generally, Blackledge is one of the best in business and will do a great job.

I actually have heard him and like him but I don't know how he can be unbiased in this one. I don't hear a lot of announcers because I am usually at TS. I guess from what I read here he may be better than most even if his alma mater is in the game

Try going to the Saints board on a Sunday. According to them, no matter who is announcing, they all LOVE the other team, and hate the Saints.

i'm extremely hard on announcers and outside of his "Todd's Tase of the town" or whatever the hell that is, he's the best imo.

I don't even mind someone having a little bias because it's an emotional experience being a fan, but I don't doubt for a second that he'll be on point all day long.

He would be at or near the top of my list if I had to choose. It is a win in itself that we don't have to hear Verne and Gary.

Ron Franklin on the PBP & Todd Blackledge on the color would be an awesome team IMHO

I'd rather take a biased blackledge then a musburger any day of the week.

How can you not love the "taste of the town" segments? Those are great!

The Rant is going to have a field day during the game, though. Every other post will be about the biased announcer.

because I don't watch football to find out where to eat in Tuscaloosa. If I wanted to know that I'd pick up a Frommers.

you might have been being sarcastic, but either way, I don't really like those segments.

IMO Blackledge is one of the few former players that are better at commentary than they were as a player - and he was a pretty good player. Obviously he'll be pulling for his alma mater, but he's one of the few that can do so without coming off as a homer unlike many others we have all heard way too many times.
