top tier program

Don't have to be a top tier program to play in the SEC. Ever heard of Vandy, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss st.? WVU has a better program than any of them and also better than USCe and Arky. They are always ranked in top 25 and have made BCS bowls. I realize that they would struggle in SEC for a while but when was the last time Ole Miss won the SEC? I would think WV would have better odds making Atlanta than the black bears.

I disagree...
Florida won 2 championships and Auburn won last year running versions of the spread.
Also, If Mo doesn't run that kickoff back, we could have easily lost that game...

DJ do u think they win those championships without Jesus w cleats and Cam Newton??

I don't see WV getting those types of players anytime soon

Then why didnt ur Ad give dana free range? Why was he forced to keep the cancerous staff? Will you make the same excuse next year if coaches are replaced? Ur rt the best players on ur team were not recruited by dana. Without them yall would have been shut out.

It's a PR game, trying to please the masses while making changes is a hard thing to do. Luck's coach in-waiting decision was a blunder, but it was designed to appease the camp that BS had done no wrong, while still trying to elevate the program.

And yes, without the players that BS recruited we would have indeed been shut out.. that's probably because we couldn't field a team without them. Can't fault Dana for not going out and recruiting all true freshman and playing them. I don't really get your angle. Because Stewart had reasonable success (more of his staff than him) at recruiting then he was a good coach? It was never his recruiting that displeased the fans it was his in game incompetence. I also don't see how any self respecting Eer fan would use that as an excuse this year either, last year I felt Stewarts decisions significantly hampered our shots, this year I didn't see anything coaching wise that I disagreed with.

Wow, my gosh. I'm sure a lot of teams have YAC and quick hit short passes. It's their offense.

Well...in the first half..that wasnt much of a factor because LSU was playing way more aggressive.

But after being ahead 27-7 at half...the D loosened up by design and allowed the dink and dunk offense to thrive...trying not to give up the big play.

Its not that complicated

Florida won a national title running the spread.

The two players that made the mid-2000's WVU spread as feared as it came to be? Pat White and Steve Slaton, both weren't exactly highly touted recruits. That's not to say they're Newton or Tebow level of skills, but it just furthers my point it's more about finding the players that best fit that system as opposed to the best players period. Pat White (and this pains me to say) couldn't run a pro style if his life depended on it, but in that spread he was easily a top 10 QB in the country. And that spread did give the SEC champions all sorts of issues.

But the point is moot.... like i said we haven't run the spread in years.

Couple of quick rebuttals. The O-line did a great job of pass-blocking... (run blocking not so much).

The pass blocking wasn't really that impressive. LSU missing tackles, especially for sacks, when they were blitzing helped tremendously--which really only occurred in the first half. Smith is talented and eludes a rush well. But in the second half, you saw nothing but vanilla pass rush.

We won the Sugar Bowl over SEC champ Georgia and Fiesta Bowl over Oklahoma running the spread.

I think eventually teams catch on to the spread, but our offense now is a lot less gimmicky than our run spread with Rich Rod IMO.

I think we are better off now than during those 2 BCS games.

Defending true fans is not whining. Posts like you just made are what ruins an otherwise great board. I'm sorry that I have PRIDE in where I'm from. Yes there are idiots here, and there is a guy having surgery done, but to blast an entire state and it's fan base is just delusional, then someone like Stacy saying stay classy when she offers nude pics of herself in exchange for tickets, talks about fighting women when she was pregnant (look at her past posts) is an absolute shame. You guys have been great here for the most part so you don't need to be a prick. I'm not being one, I'm simply saying don't blame people for what you don't know. So sorry that I'm tired of bullshite being spread. Something bad happened but quit blaming the entire fan base and no need for the comments bashing all of us. If any other group of fans understood this the most, I thought it would be you guys. But apparently some still don't get it.

you bring up that none of those players are danas players. But geno smith isnt a scrub. your oline arent full of scrubs. Ur skill players arent scrubs.

Last year and this year we have true frehsman playing and making plays. Its not uncommon. If you are a top tier program you shoul dbe able to out recruit everyone in ur conference.

Teams like kentucky, ole miss, and moo state have played us close and have actually beat us. It would be very tough for wvu for a few years.
Do you really think you can play the east then mix in games against lsu, ark, auburn, bama, state, ole miss aTm every year? Cus Teams like LSU, Bama, and UF cant even navigate that schedule every year.

This is a ridiculous post. Of course they can be a top tier program using the spread. I have one word for you... "FLORIDA". Under Urban Meyer's spread they were beating asses into the ground. WVU isn't very far from that. The offensive line totally punked our D-line in pass blocking situations and given a couple of years to develop a defense and run game they will be a force to recon with. Maybe someone watched a different game than I did... but I saw a hillbilly, pregnant wife beating, injured player booing team with a classless coach that is only a year or two away from being top tier good.

We do out-recruit everyone in our conference, which is why we have dominated the Big East over the last 4-5 years. The problem is we aren't, and likely won't ever, out-recruit the LSU's of the world. It is improving but we will have to rely on scheme in order to have major success.

It would be awesome to have the beasts that you guys have on defense, but it just isn't realistic for us to expect to field a defense of that athleticism and size.

LOL I still don't get this point. He's been head coach for the summer, he's supposed to have his own players? I mean no one ever blasted Stew's recruits, that said, should he have kept his job because he nabbed a few players that are on par with the recruiting levels we've had? No, he couldn't get it done on the field and that's what cost him his job.

You have this whole sour grapes complex happening... and you won. Odd to say the least.
