Nothing against Aranda but we need to move on from Les completely. The next two hires after him being in house promotions from his coaching staff just does not make sense. Keep Aranda as highest paid DC and bring in a big time offensive HC.

Can he recruit and motivate the players?
Usually when such an outstanding once in a lifetime coach leaves a program, it regresses. Wisconsin did as well, if not better, when Aranda went to LSU.

No thanks! LSU has had enough experiments. Inbreeding is not healthy!!!

- Brilliant football mind
- Relentless work ethic
- Respect from his peers
- Loved by his players
- Good recruiter (although not elite)

I think he'd be great at it. And we know the defense would always be top tier.

I think many people advocating for that see that he is way more valuable than his CEO. It would have been much more wise to elevate the key piece rather than the failed figurehead. This offseason, you saw why. He might not be a good head coach (only opportunity and time will tell), but not making him the head coach made the program very vulnerable.

I normally would not disagree, but I think this would be an exception. Aranda is a bright defensive mind we don't want to lose, he only coached under Miles for a couple of games.

I said it before but I have a feeling this O hire will end up costing us Aranda.

That's mostly it. I think much of the sentiment in favor him being the next HC comes from:
quote:

I’d take him over O

And people understanding that our administration isn't going to go out and find a qualified HC from somewhere else. Thus, people think "hey look at this guy we already have!"

His players absolutely love him.

And he had their defense #1 in the country his last year there. They've been #4 and #3 the last two years, and last year had the easiest schedule in P5.

Right.

Clemson is the exception to this rule.

All the other top coaches head coach that runs one side of the ball:

Saban - Defense
Urban - Offense
Jimbo - Offense
Kirby - Defense

He is smart and innovative, rare traits in LSU football coaches.

Plus him being half black would cause about 10% of our fan base to take the gas pipe, that would be fun to watch.

I would assume he can recruit. He wouldn't be as successful as he is if he couldn't. Is he an elite recruiter? I doubt it. But as a HC it's more about high level recruiting. Showing players how they fit in, showing them how they'd be utilized, showing them the potential roster moves that would work to get them on the field, strategizing the recruiting cycle to make sure you bring in players that are talented and meet your needs. I would bet my life he'd be damn good at all of those things.

That's not true at all. Wisconsin's D stayed consistent, yes. But the guy they hired was Aranda's student.

I haven't done a study, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that being a great coordinator is the best predictor of success at the HC level.

I think He’s a better recruiter than people give him credit for.

He has made in home visits with Taylor and Phillips (both on team)

Players love him. Just look st any interview with a linebacker when they ask about him.

He’s just a crazy smart guy. He just isn’t a Red Bull fueled Cajun gorilla

Not charismatic
i dont even agree with this part. he's simply smarter than most other coaches, and, personally, i could listen to him talk all day. pirate stories are great and all, but "charisma" comes in many different forms. the very definition is:

- compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others.
- a divinely conferred power or talent.

his level of intelligence inspires devotion in others. it is a very rare talent. players buy in. fans buy in. i know i have.

this guy is the real thing. if people cant see that, then i dont even know where to start.

They hired Some really good DCs and a Very Good DC as HC after he left.

His replacement is not a HC.
Jim Leonard is a bad arse.
Chryst is also a great DC.

But you can see how quickly he made that defense better and he did it under 2 different coaches

And he made our defense instantly better too.

I don't think he'd be a good head coach simply because of his personality. I'd still take him over O and more than willing to give him a chance before I would've ever considered O.

Looks like a lot of posters want to attribute unusual recruiting prowess to Coach Aranda. I have seen nothing to support this conclusion.
I like Aranda and think he may be the best DC in college;
I think the Orgeron hire is a disaster and want someone to replace him;
I think Aranda would be less damaging as a HC than Orgeron.
THat does NOT mean Aranda is the ideal choice for LSU as its next HC, nor does it mean that Aranda would take it.

Sabans formula mixes that attention to detail with the best recruiting in The country

Do you think Saban is really some magic pitchman? He’s a legend at the helm of the best and most consistent program in the country. All he has to do is show you the skins he has on the wall. Many of the best players just want to be a part of that level of success.

How do you know he's not a good recruiter? Link?

Charismatic? Is Saban "charismatic?" Belichick?
