If you weren't saying that, then my apologies, but you sure didn't go out of your way based on what I read to make the clear differentiation that both methods are effective.
Okay, I'm gonna try to rehash some of this for you since its apparent that even after my response, you didn't re-read what you obviously dind't pay attention to:
quote:
His reasoning was solid: Saban is an obviously great coach, known as a micromanager but obviously a proven commodity in that he's mastered the art of program building via that micromanagement. This obsessive and yes compulsive attention to detail yields great results
Looking at this, I'm not sure how I could've been any less ambiguous. For you to be able to say that it "seems" like I was saying his method wasn't effective quite literally makes me feel really sad for you. I mean, look at what I wrote. Then look at what you took out of it and responded with. How can you be that far apart from what you read? I mean, its like you didn't even try. I'm gonna do my best to help you out, though. Don't worry. We'll get there. Together.
I could also point to...
quote:
The price of success that comes with involving Nick in your program is installing a man at the top of your program that has very little-if any-air around him at all. His aholishness (yes, its a made up word. Deal with it.) is matched only by his on-the-field accomplishments.
If you take my comment as a sleight to Saban here, then by the paragraph's very structure, you have to hold my statement that his aholishness "is matched only by his on-the-field accomplishments," as just as great of a compliment to the end result of his methods. Thereby saying EXACTLY what you're trying to say that I'm not saying.
See how easy-and fun-reading can be!? Let's continue:
quote:
Hanagriff astutetly points out that this inner drive, this obsessive attention to detail is both what makes Saban great, and what creates this ahole persona.
2nd verse, same as the first. I'm complimenting Hanagriff for pointing out-astutely-that Saban's own compulsions and attention to detail are what makes him great. I'm openly admitting that I agree with a guy that says that Saban is great. See where I'm going here? This isn't that hard.
Let's keep going:
quote:
For starters, Nick absolutely must be mentioned in telling the tale about LSU Football's true return to the mountaintop of the collegiate football landscape. Love him or hate him, he played a huge role
I know, I know...All of these are starting to become a little "tiring" for you to read, aren't they? Perhaps if you'd read them-and actually comprehended them-the first time, I wouldn't have to respond to you and point them out again. I had a boss that once told me, "If you don't make time to do something right the first time, you better make time to do it twice." I'm guessing you see what he meant by that with this exercise, don't you?
Moving on:
quote:
Granted, its a formula that's meant success, and not just for him, either.
Tiger_N_ATL to GFunk: Really, GFunk? You're coming off like a broken record here.
GFunk to Tiger_N_ATL: I know, I know. But you took the time to respond twice without even coming close to grasping what it is that I actually wrote. Believe me, this is hurting me worse than its hurting you. Like Kathy Bates before she sledgehammered that dude's ankles in that flick, "It's for the best."
Lastly, we (mercifully for us all) arrive at:
quote:
Even though none can argue with the end result of the means he uses
I think we've covered it all here. I'm going to really encourage you to keep working at understanding what you read. Perhaps re-read it again. What you're shooting for here is actually understanding what people write. Improving at this aspect of life can help you in many ways. Professionally, personally, the list goes on and on.
I'm here to help if need be. Just let me know if we need to start over.
Yours In Learning,
GFunk

This constant Saban vs. Miles, "he's better, no, he's better" juvenile, high schoolish comparison contest is really getting tiring.

If you weren't saying that, then my apologies, but you sure didn't go out of your way based on what I read to make the clear differentiation that both methods are effective. It appeared to me to be a veiled attempt at casting Miles in a more positive light because "he's a good guy". If you didn't do that, then ignore my response directly to you, but I still stand by my response based on what I have read from others on here. Since I didn't quote you directly you can consider that a non response to you.
I think the original poster made the point that both methods are successful as far as wins and losses on the football field, so I suppose Bombshell didn't feel the need to rehash that in her post.
And I find no fault in casting Miles in a more positive light based on the belief that he's a "good guy." I suspect each of us wants to have happiness and contentment while also accomplishing some of the traditional professional goals. If a person can achieve all this while still treating people with respect and dignity, I see no problem with holding them in a more postitive light than the one who, from all accounts, is surly, ill-tempered and unable to enjoy even his own successes.

His response to your attempt to read into his post attitudes and conclusions that weren't there may not have been terribly articulate, but neither was it inaccurate in its essential truth.

It is a toss up for me who I'd want long term at this point.
Right now Miles and Saban are 2-2 against each other. In 10 more years I'll bet they will be 7-7.
It is a toss-up. 50/50. They are both great coaches. Miles fits a little better at LSU than Saban did.

Then I remembered what an a-hole he is, and who he coaches for.
Spot on! The dude is beyond uptight. I'm a diehard Dolphins fan, and while I was pissed at him leaving LSU, I was also jacked about him coming to the Fins. What a dick he was.He cleaned house, including Don Shula's personal secretary who had worked in the front office since the early 70's. Made it clear that he didn't want to have anything to do with anyone in the front office, giving the order through the office mgr "do not say good morning to Coach unless he sez good morning to you." the stories go on and on....I really think he just has short man complex!

Didn't like Saban when he was at LSU and still don't like him, but there were and are a lot of good coaches I don't like......so who cares........
Miles, just beat their butts..........and WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent post
A life that is lived without joy is a wasted life. Thank you Les Miles for allowing me to experience joy while watching you and your Tigers.
I am eating grass as I type this.
Geaux Tigers!

At the time, Saban was the perfect hire for LSU. The program needed someone with his personality to take control and move it in the right direction. Miles was the perfect fit to ensure a smooth transition, and he has done a great job maintaining this program.
Point is, with the state the LSU program was in at the time both coaches were hired, both were a perfect fit.
LSU has done pretty well with the past 2 coaching hires. This program has come a long way from hiring the Vandy coach who went 5-6.

The OP is dead on. I have heard pretty much identical accounts from people who are real close to him. He is simply an unhappy person.

Would LSU be where it is right now if it were not for Nick Saban?
Also, if he is such a terrible person then why are so many people taking time out of their day to judge him?

I think the 21.5 minutes for an interview was a gimmick used to extend the Saban Mystique.
When you look behind the curtain he is probably on Farmville for 3 hours a day...

Excellent post. I posted about a week ago how the personalities of each Coach may effect the players in this game. Miles vs. Saban
I simply scratched the surface, but I want to commend you for going much more in-depth. Also, what a nice treat to read such a well written, well thought out post.

Saban has no respect for anyone.
I remember being at an LSU graduation exercises ceremony before Saban left. Saban was sitting two rows in front of me. A person came up to do the opening prayer. Saban talked the entire time during the prayer, cracking jokes the whole time to whatever lackeys were at his side.
Saban has the same persona and attitude as people like Napoleon and Hitler. Terrible people that have the ability to lead weak people.
