By keeping the ball 25% more than SC we allowed our defense to.

1. Rest More
2. Obtain extra coaching on sideline between series.
3. Limited SC to running 20 less plays then Mizzou/State

Running game (game plan) controlled that

Yeah when you covert 3rd down at an 80% clip as opposed to a 0% things go much better.

Yes! Finley brings more fear of running the ball so defenders fear him, and allowed lanes for our RB’s to open up.

Yup and running the ball better allowed us to convert on 3rd down too. We faced 3rd and short much more often

You mean not allowing the defense to be on the field...

Yeah those 2 carries for 1 net yard on the 3rd (9 play 65 yard) possession ending in a touchdown were really huge

We racked up rushing yards in the second half after TJ led us to a big lead yet yall want to hold that against him.

OL won the game for us. They literally beat the crap out of the USCe's front 7. Some of those holes were enormous.

I dont get how people arent saying this enough and keep pointing to the qb. Right out the gate the line pushed usc back 3-5 yards before contact. it was great to see.

The offensive game plan was perfect.

Opening Drive of game was 16 play for 75 yards. 13 rushes and 3 passes (for 19 yards). We were pounding it down there throat from the get-go.

And, to insinuate that my comment was a knock on TJ is the most ignorant thing I have ever read on TD. Finley played great but the game plan was to control the line of scrimmage and clock by running the ball. TJ ability to run (and the threat of) helped the offense

Yeah the defense was still terrible, just limited their opportunities

It also helps when the defense gets gashed and gives up 3 scoring drives that each took less than 2 minutes

bullshite.

TOP never scored a point. TOP doesn't get you awarded points. Neither did field position. In fact, field position can be more correlated to points and thus wins and at the same time a "worse" TOP.

TOP is a by product of how both sides of the ball play. Not just defense, not just offense.

And Colin Hill really did not play well at all. A mobile qb could make our defense look more comical.

Uhh.. what?

Third downs vs. South Carolina:

3rd & 3 or less: 6 attempts (5 run, 1 pass)
3rd & 4-6: 2 attempts (2 pass)
3rd & 7 or more: 2 attempts (2 pass)

Third downs vs. Mizzou:

3rd & 3 or less: 1 attempt (1 pass)
3rd & 4-6: 3 attempts (3 pass)
3rd & 7 or more: 6 attempts (6 pass)

quote:

We racked up rushing yards in the second half after TJ led us to a big lead

First half vs. South Carolina (halftime score 31-10):
28 rushing attempts
18 passing attempts
61% rush / 39% pass

First half vs. Vanderbilt (halftime score 21-7):
12 rushing attempts
16 passing attempts
43% rush / 57% pass

I think most of us just want to keep up our success in the run game, because it’s a hell of a lot easier to convert 3rd and 3 than 3rd and 10.

The offensive line deserves the credit for opening running lanes and giving Finley time to throw.

South Carolina sucking, and our defense playing slightly better than other games, won the game for us.
