Time for an investment: QB

Pretty much beating the shite out of a dead horse, but it is time for LSU to do whatever they have to and snag a top flight QB.......a pure QB, not a hybrid (i.e. RS - who is a wonderful athlete and team member).
I am talking about hitting the national scene for a signal caller to build the offense around. Since JR, there has been no true elite QB to come in. I would love to have MF back, but I am talking about the closest thing to a lock there is out of HS.
This in combination with a proven QB coach is my LSU pipe dream.
just venting I guess.
Nothing at all against the ones we have now, but something is not clicking....duh.

Recruiting top qb's is not our problem. Development is the problem. Lee and JJ were both heavily recruited. Lee was an elite 11 QB, who many said was the star of the elite 11 camp.

They were obviously mistaken

I think development is the problem as well.

Highly recruited is one thing, I am talking about elite and neither were considered elite QB prospects. Albeit, I do agree with development, but until Les is forced to shite can Crowton to save his own job, that ain't happening.

I don't care how elite a qb is in high school, without proper coaching and development, he won't succeed at this level.
ETA: I'm not arguing against your point btw. I'd love to see us get a top 3 type of true passing qb, but my main frustrations come from not developing and properly using what we have.

Put me down for player development and poor gameday preparation. Our quarterbacks are not getting better with experience...

I agree 100%.
I honestly think we dont have a QB right now and have come to believe neither JJ or JL or ever going to get the job done at LSU.

It's sad when I start leaning J. Lee over Jefferson. I never thought Jefferson had it and after watching Lee having a pretty decent command of the offense, Jefferson is starting to fade on me.
His numbers last year don't mean shite to me.
It's been two years since Lee's disastrous season. Maybe the third time is the charm after being in the system for 4 years.

a non-"top flight" QB also just won
OL and defense are the 2 worries

LSU just needs to program its offense around the QB position. Bama did last year and was just fine.
LSU won 9 games with one of the worst offenses I have seen from a BCS team. LSU can win, but they are going to have to be more creative.

All these guys were highly-regarded coming out of high school. What are you talking about?

True but since we have given up trying to have a dominant defense, we better get a top flight QB to score lots of points.
The only way to win with a "game manager" like Mauck, Flynn and even Bama's McElroy is to have a vicious defense that shuts down the other teams offense (3and out) and a power running game that eats up the clock and keeps the ball out of the other teams hands.
Since we no longer are even trying to have a dominant defense, we need to go the Texas Tech route and get a QB that can throw it all over the field and put up lots of points.

If LSU were to program the offense around the current qbs, they would run the ball every down.

This all falls back on CLM, he has not gotten a coach that can or is willing to improve the QB's we have, so......... if your a top 5 QB in the country, are you signing with LSU? HELL NO! CLM has to get a OC and a QB coach, bottom line.

Saban did a great job of recruiting leaders. Seems we've lacked that under Miles.

that is exactly my mindset. We do not have all the other pieces (mainly coachingwise) that led the MM teams or Bama last year. To counter the lack of Sabanesk coaching, we need a field general with off the charts moxie and getting a "sure thing" out of HS is a start.
BTW, 2007 was great, but we were on the razors edge that year.....the same edge that sliced us open in 2009.

this D can be dominant with good DL production something I think this unit is capable of
but yes our problems are a mixture of lack of talent combined with an inability to develop and playcall to their strengths. frick I wish we would have canned crowton and brought steve logan in
