The offensive line was absolutely terrible vs. Miami.

I wouldn't say the whole line, they did fairly will up the middle. Tackles had big problems though. Could not run outside the guards and pressure on the QB all night

Imo run blocking was gonna be where we could win. Attack them with inside run was my key to success. Because nick was 220lbs n best shape of life and laser focused. And the Oline out weighed their Dline considerably. Which explains why they blew by us at times with the pass rush

Some people just cannot help themselves from pissing all over anything positive. Your mama made you eat your green beans, you were a messy baby and received spankings didn’t you. Half empty glass

Manny Diaz blitzes too much. He could have called a much less aggressive defense and let his players' talents outmatch ours in the trenches. Instead, he blitzes on damn near every play and we finally start calling draws and runs up the middle to bust it open.

LSU was also 3-for-16 on third-down conversions. The offensive line is still the biggest question mark on this team.

Not sure what game you watched but Miami lived in the LSU backfield. O-line play is the area of most concern going forward. They HAVE to get better, and I believe they will...but Auburn, Georgia, Miss St and Bama ALL have better D-lines than Miami. Buckle up.

agree.

the oline is by far my biggest concern this year.

Damn, man. I'm as excited about the win as anyone, but I dont think OL play is what should be highlighted. It's clearly our most glaring weakness and something that desperately needs to improve before we head into the hornet's nest in Auburn. A performance like that against Auburn in Jordan-Hare will not cut it.

While true, everything is relative.

We have people on here complaining that while we beat a top 10 team, we aren’t elite enough to beat top tier teams. Well no shite.

This team, and the OL is a work in progress. It passed the first test. It has two weeks before the next test. Honestly, I don’t expect to be able to move the ball consistently against Auburn on the road. But if it’s ready to give us a fighting chance by the time Georgia comes calling, we would have FAR exceeded reasonable expectations.

OL gelled in both the passing and run games as the game progressed. Settled in and got in a rhythm. I expect them to only get better as we go on.

Twice in this game we had perfect opportunities to work on plays that will be difference makers

This is even more important because it's illegal to work on difference-makers in practice.

I was going to say, want to talk about 3 yards and a cloud of dust. They opened up some nice holes on some runs, but they are a work in progress still.

The OL was roughly where I thought it would be, needs significant improvement. Then again, it's the most challenging unit to play well in early in a season, especially with multiple new starters.

Averted under 4 yards a carry and it was even worse outside of 1 play for 50 yards.

That's not unusual at all when playing a stout D, most carries will be held to short gains and it takes 1 or more long runs to improve YPC. And that is without an experienced feature back with high level (talent) expectations to begin with. 'tards and negas were on here shitting on Brossette for weeks saying he wasn't SEC caliber #1 or #2 RB. I don't know that LSU's run production is going to be at it's typical level this season due to multiple factors, but primarily due to D's the team will face and if the OL can play at a consistently higher level than vs UM.

Well of course but all of the other team's defensive units will also be improving.

It’s relatively unusual for us.

Realistically we ran for under 3 yards a carry on 40 carries and had 1 long run. But even a 50 yards TD didn’t bring us over 4 yards a carry.

We play 4 teams that had a better rush defense than Miami last year (Aub, Miss St, UGA and Bama) and Florida was not far behind Miami.

We also weren’t great in pass protection either.

We’re gonna have to really improve on the OL going forward, or we’ll be leaning on Defense, and STs

Great thing about this game is that you can enjoy it at all levels of understanding.

Enjoy your tailgating, sir

That's a given, but with improved pass protection and WRs catching more balls that hit them in the hands it can help with the run game. I mean, there are no proven LF7s or Guice on this team, which would have impacted past run statistics. That said, LF7 never did jack vs Bama, so it's not like uncharted territory. The O has to become more multiple to beat teams on the schedule. I watched the VT/FSU game last night, it was quite interesting.

The OL is looking like a very good unit right now. The most improved overall unit on the team.
