The posters who Rag on JR are jackasses IMO. I feel that way about anyone ragging on any of our players though. If I think a guy needs to be sitting, that is how I usually put it (with few exceptions ), other wise I try not to complain about our players. Coaching decisions are fair game though.

Well,Hodson did beat two top 10 teams his freshman year, one at home and one on the road.

Odd how their careers progressed. Russell had some just putrid moments his freshman year, just awful. He looked like a 1-AA QB in Gainesville in '04 and Hodson had a big win his freshman year in '86 with a good comeback vs Florida.

Russell got better and better, while Hodson sort of stablized (although we got spoiled by his incredible fr year)with solid games with an explosive surroundings.Had the gutty drives to win vs Auburn and Alabama his jr year, but he and the whole team went bust his sr year.

Russell had a solid 2005 and great 2006.

Play calling against Auburn probably cost him one in 06. JMO.

Well, neither did Pete Maravich. Darrell Mitchell played on an SEC title team and Final Four team in '06. Was Mitchell better ?

Look,I've been going around and round with guys here who don't want to hear any word about Russell not being the greatest LSU player, ever.I think Russell was tremendous, but other candidates are worth mentioning.

I just don't think Russell's lack of a title matters. Many have chosen Bert Jones has their top LSU QB. He rarely played on LSU's 1970 SEC title team and LSU finished 6th in '71 and 3rd in '72 when he was the main guy.

The no title argument is the only one you have - and it's not a good argument at all.

I just don't get how posters ASSUME some other QB would have won all the games JR did and then ASSUME said QB would have won the games we lost with JR starting. The only game in 06 that I felt JR didn't play well was the UF game. Who knows, maybe with Crowton at the helm he would have played much better in that game as well.

And he wasn't even that bad in the UF game.

Is JR the most talent QB in LSu history? absolutely he is. But that wasn't what was asked. IMO Tommy Hodson was the best QB in LSU history. You have to factor in their entire career and in doing that Tommy is #1. Now if you want to make a individual season then you have to go with Rohan.

It's a team goal. He failed to come up big in key situations. Also, why was unavailable for the Miami game, even to cheer his team on?

If you think Matt Flynn was a better QB than JaMarcus Russell while at LSU, you are a god damn moron.

This is a great example of why there is such a disagreement between LSU fans on JR. It started early in 06 after the Arizona and Tennessee games. Anyone who pointed out JR mistakes was a racist, idiot, stupid and sucked. Thank you Lucky Les for serving as such a good example.

Does not winning a NC hurt your legacy compared to someone who does? Of course.

Does it make someone a better QB? Not necessarily.

That is dumb. He was one of the most clutch players to ever play at LSU.

I don't think we have had another QB in the history of our program that wins that ASU game, down, 4th and long the way JR did. (as a freshmen no less).

Russell was not that bad in the Florida game? Hah! Jesus Christ, he killed us in that game, and if you don't admit that then you are a bigger dumbass and idiot than I already know you are. Fumble at the 1 foot line, 3 interceptions! Oh, but let me guess, Russell was not at fault in those frickups, but always someone else, including the coaches, but never Russell! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

2 of the picks weren't his fault.

If I remember correctly, the fumble wasn't his fault. I thought the center never really got him the ball. Anyone else remember that play?

BTW - I didn't really mean that he didn't play bad. What I meant was his "bad game" isn't as bad as other QBs bad games.

the picks were his fault, the fact that the throws made some contact with the receivers' fingers doesn't change the fact that the throws were mis-timed or to the wrong receiver...

Bull fricking shite.

Our special teams with two muffed punts, receivers flinging balls to the defense, and our center not being able to get the ball to the QBs hands killed us

quote:

Fumble at the 1 foot line,

Helms later admitted that was his fault.

3 interceptions!

Two off of his receiver's hands. Not his fault.

There is no way to pin that loss on JR.
