And this is the problem with naming a court after a coach who didnt win it all. Alot of other coaches names can be thrown in the mix to have their name on it. Honestly, if you look at the accolades, gunter has almost as much of a right to it as Dale does…..basically neither does. Might as well name the football field saban-miles-orgeron field

Skip Bertman set the bar and that’s why we gave Skip Bertman Field. Neither Brown nor Gunter as well as they did were good enough to earn having the court named after them.

It’s gonna wind up Kim Mulkey Court. May as we’ll just wait until then.

If anyone deserves such an insult, it is Dale Brown.

Put me down in favor of Dale Brown Court. And although we need a new arena, it must always be named after the Pistol.

Dale Brown was BLM before the movement ever was conceived.

He was always a fighter for the poor.

In the article you linked, the hand-wringing by Dale Brown's seemingly brainwashed supporters is typical. And Brown's quote is hilarious. He says he refuses to campaign for anything but the quote begins with Brown pointing out that Gunter (already) has a statue.

As a sport, women's basketball is not the equal of men's basketball but that's a different argument. In her sport, Gunter was every bit the equal of Brown and then some. Before the NCAA sanctioned women's basketball, she was one of the game's pioneers when it was a fledgling sport governed by the AIAW. On top of that, compared to Brown, Gunter won more games (708 to 448), had a higher winning percentage (.667 to .598) and had more 20-win seasons (22 to 10).

Gunter was also one of three 2005 inductees for the prestigious Naismith basketball hall of fame -- Brown's time for that honor has probably passed. I'm not an advocate of naming the court for anyone that hasn't at least won a national championship, but the argument for Gunter is at least as good as the one for Brown.

I hate to sound unappreciative but am I missing something on why he specifically deserves to have the court named after him? A couple of final four runs and a few regular season SEC titles, career .598 win % at LSU.

He did have some great seasons and brought in some terrific athletes. Just struggling to see how such accomplishments warrant all this. Seems political...

I'm not sure what you're aiming at.

Dale Brown was always nice and kind to me. He gave unconditionally... That's all I have.

To me, this is just funny. It was ridiculous to name it after Dale Brown in the first place. Not nearly accomplished enough IMO. Now to see others trying to lower the bar even more and the jockeying and infighting is a complete shite show. At this point who TF cares? They've already rendered the "honor" meaningless. Now it's about as entertaining and meaningful as a Jerry Springer rerun.
