I've played sports and coached and if you can't see that this guy doesn't have it coaching wise then I don't know what to tell you

$2 million? Wow no wonder. All this crap about Kentucky going to the sweet sixteen in their first year with a new coach. Promise you they used a hell of a lot more than $2 mill.
No one knows actual numbers, but yeah UK definitely would/should have a nice sized NIL budget as expected.

But in comparison, I know they got bounced, but St John’s was a top 10 team all season and a 2 seed and Pitino stated their NIL budget was 3.5-4mil. Dudes talking about Bama and Auburn dumping $20mil into basketball NIL is imaginary.

The most any football team in the country spent last season was Ohio State at 20mil. No basketball team came anywhere near that number.

Yet, even if the ~8mil number is accurate for LSU next season - just to grant them that narrative - they will tell you that is still bottom of the barrel, just slightly more competitive. They actually believe schools like Moo State are raising and spending $12mil/yr on MBB team.

The projected avg NIL for P4 schools next season is 3.1mil. The NCAA put that projection out.

McMen are a very patronizing bunch. Criticizing matt McMahon indicates you’re a beta and simply don’t understand good basketball. You’ve clearly never played a team sport if you can’t tip your cap to the job matt McMahon has done.

Frankly they act like it’s noble and a badge of honor defending a retard

A lot of the information is fed by "agents". The agents have a vested interest in raising the ceiling on each school's NIL budget, even if their statements are totally fictious, in order to create leverage for their clients. That, and the fact reports ahead of last year suggest schools like Arkansas and Kentucky only had around $5M-$7M budgets makes (1) the idea of $20M completely ludicrous and (2) suggestions that LSU will have $8M (up from a purported $2M) a bit dubious.

Of course, the article in the OP was penned by Glen Guilbeau, whose is well known for being a bastion of journalistic integrity and would take ANY contrarian position, no matter how illogical, if he thought it would give him a few more clicks. The same guy who will tell you that Brian Kelly is bad and overpaid, despite only Georgia and Alabama having a better SEC over the past 3 seasons and Jay Johnson is "not a home run hire", will tell you the criticism for McMahon is unwarranted because he's just had bad luck and "no support".

I agree with all you said, but I want to mention, Guilbeau and Dickie V need to be buried together in some 69 scenario. fricking asshats.

That $3.1 million you're referencing has nothing to do with "NIL." The article you linked and tables provided within it pertain to potential payouts per sport/athlete for rev sharing pursuant to the House settlement

There’s an NIL section in there but you’re right, I said 3.1, it’s really 2.4, my mistake.

Average funding per NIL collective
-Power 5 schools.. $9,815,217
-Percentage allocated to football 66%, or 6.5mil
-Percentage allocated to men’s basketball 24%, or 2.4mil

I know Minnesota was at 5/6 mil and Virginia was at 7 mil.

That is probably true. I could see 3 or 4 mil being the average going forward. I mean teams like Minnesota spent 5/6 mil last yr. Virginia spent 7 mil.

Then you're going to have the lower spending teams in those leagues.

And how do you know those numbers? I'll do a jamarr here, since that's his shtick.

I don't not necessarily believe you Chalky, but I'd like to vet and source.

Look towards the bottom of the page for the NIL specifics. I gave the profit sharing projection on accident, got em mixed up in my head. On avg for the P5s it’s saying 9.8mil total with 6.5 to football and 2.4 to basketball. The SEC average total is over 13mil with 75-80% of that going to football on average. Now they have our total at just over 20mil but they don’t have a breakdown of any kind for it that I saw. If we’re going by the averages football would get 15-16mil, basketball 3mil and all other sports combined 2mil but that’s speculation.

What’s disturbing is that none of those quotes state anything about last season being unacceptable or if any fundamental issues need to be addressed. No responsibility taken. McMahon seems to think a money bag is just going to solve the issues. If you listen to his post game presser after the SEC tournament embarrassment, you’ll get a sense of just how lost he is.

I like that the article mentioned we have the 18th ranked high school recruiting class coming in. Bookmark that fact for when the Legion of McMen start lighting this board up after a 1-10 conference start next season about “no talent on the team”.

There are over 300 D1 basketball programs. A #18 ranking is more than sufficient. Talk about a true “put your money where your mouth is.”
