Ticket Price-Gouging on StubHub, Seat Geek, etc.

Why is it legal to price-gouge buyers for LSU football tickets when sellers post them on StubHub, Seat Geek, etc.? Ticket scalping was illegal for many years. I’m just trying to understand.

Because in Louisiana, and I may be slightly off in my understanding of the law, one can sell tickets for up to the printed price AND any contributions they made to the university on top of the price in order to get the ticket.

It’s frustrating how you see a ticket for $75 and then it becomes $130 with all of the fees.

That may be true but tickets for big games are sold for dollar amounts much higher than that. Face value plus the prorated amount for that games TAF contribution is less than the asking price for top matchups like Alabama, aTm, etc.

My understanding is the current law allows for ticket resale at whatever price the market offers. I do not know what the current law is regarding people who purchase tickets simply to scalp them, though.
Ultimately. the state will get it's pound of flesh if you purchase via the resale sites in the form of sales tax so they won't do anything to stifle the revenue.

The fees are criminal but there is no alternative.

It's sad to see brokers selling tickets on those sites they don't even have. Sure, if they can't secure tickets you'll get a refund but how many people make plans, book hotel rooms, flights, etc thinking they actually have those tickets when often times, they don't.
I'll sell tickets on those sites when I can' sell them other places but I refuse to buy any off of them.

Capitalism? Why do you think it should be illegal?

A man SHOULD be able to sell his possessions for however much he wants.

My issue is 100 with the brokers. I’m currently in a battle with stubhub.
I live in Florida and bought tickets for the LSU UF game. I bought tickets right after the loss to FSU.
I bought mobile tickets but the seller changed to paper tickets after the fact. SH is refusing to give me a refund or replacement tickets, saying the seller will get them to my mailbox in Florida before game time.

They're selling things they don't have and don't have rights to but rather hope to acquire.

If someone listed all their seats individually for LSU home games, doubtful they could break even by the end of the year. The donations are essentially to secure tickets to the "big" games, so they are just trying to get some of their money back on those. For reference lower bowl Army tickets were $5-$10 close to kickoff, upper deck tickets were being given away

Pony up the money you can get seats wherever you want to for any big game. I never understood this logic.

They sell rights to tickets they don't have. If they don't get the tickets they refund the buyer.

I do and said that earlier. Doesnt mean I still can't dislike it.

The fees by StubHub, SeatGeek, etc. is where the true crime exists. I’m fine with h paying more for a game that I want to attend; but 30% seller fees are a rip off.

Bought 4 tix to the LSU Army game on seatgeek. Paid $204 in fees. Ridiculous
ETA: All of those platforms seem ripe for some competitor to undercut them and charge a flat 3% fee or something.

Happens all the time.
They'll find sections and rows selling at high profits and hope to secure seats in that section and when things fall through, blame it on the seller and offer a refund or replacement tickets for something that was never for sale in the first place.
One of the hottest ticket lotteries out there right now is the Savannah Bananas. Before one ticket was distributed to anyone they were already on sale on those resale sites and the organization called them out on it.

Is there any law that says the TAF fee has to be prorated when you sell a ticket?
