Throwing to guys open...

I’m saying this as a fan that has half the athleticism and football ability of our current quarterback and as someone that obviously never played at this level, but is Daniels not throwing anticipation passes?
There were many times last night when I was sitting in the south end zone when Boutte or Nabers or Thomas Jr. we’re running deeper routes like posts or corners or crosses, and when they broke, they had what looked like 2-3 steps on their guy.
I admit I was watching the receivers so I didn’t always see what the line was providing for Daniel’s but it looked like we had guys streaking, wide open, for what would have been huge gains had Daniels let the bal go before the break in anticipation of them getting open.
I type all that to say this, if the coaches can get Daniels more comfortable through film and practice reps, these huge plays are there. Hopefully we start capitalizing.

Bro this Daniels topic....the horse is dead but everyone keeps beating it!
I'll take lack of downfield vision right now over Nuss and his high potential for turn overs

I haven’t seen him thrown open a WR in any game this year. He’s game is the short routes and it’s painfully obvious. As long as he keeps throwing 1-5 yard routes he will flyover around 70%. Anything further and he drops to less than 50.
If he improves some. We could steal a couple games. Hope for the best.

Doubt Daniels will ever be capable of such.

Not many QBs have great vision and the ability to throw guys open.
We have an athletic QB that can make plays with his legs and he makes a good pass more times than not.

Dudes are open….. he gotta let it go. But he does better on roll outs or quick reads. He’s just unsure in the pocket.

Do you think he is just so scared of throwing interceptions or does he not believe in his accuracy? How self aware is he?

I saw the same from the North end zone. Kept having to remind myself, Braden…Joe Burrow he is NOT. He will not throw it on there cuts to space. He waits until someone is wide open. By then, he’s too late delivering the ball, so he starts running. Almost feels like he is afraid of throwing an INT. But his hesitation takes away the teams greatest strength…WRs.

As someone already said, I’ll take what he brings over Nuss at the moment. Nuss will turn the ball over. Having said that, Daniel’s is late on every throw he makes. Even the passes he completes are often late. He needs a guy to be wide arse open even though the receiver may be running into open space. He throws to the guy, not the space.

Lots of the missed catches were thrown behind the receivers. To throw a guy open on long passes he has to trust he can make a throw. He isn’t there yet. Those passes now would be under thrown and interceptions. The timing on most passes isn’t there.

I don't think this is a indictment of Jayden vs Nuss. We all know that Jayden is the best choice for QB this season. I think that Jayden needs to continue to work on his reads and finding his receivers down field. I think our coaches will continue to work with Jayden on this. He is a very coachable kid and will grow with the offensive as the year goes on.

I like Daniels and I’m not hating on the kid. But you’re right there were serval times where he had guys open down field. Happened a few times in the fsu game as well. It is frustrating. We had drives last night that should’ve been extended but weren’t. Luckily our D was on point and we never got far behind. I just worry that it could lead to us getting too far behind and unable to catch up. But we have coach who knows what he’s doing, I’m sure it will be addressed and worked on.

You are correct to some degree. The pass to Nabors on 4th and 3 was on time and well before the route was open. He had to throw it to the spot and Nabors had to get there. I could see that second half that he was working on that more.
Comparison is Burrow would roll out into open flat and look downfield first. Daniels sees open grass and takes off. He resisted this temptation more in the second half.

Probably a little bit of both. See all of those out of bound back shoulder passes. He is trying to hard to put it 100% where the receiver is the only player that has a chance to catch it. Only problem is that it ends up being thrown where nobody can catch it. He's trying to make low percentage high precision passes instead of letting/making his receivers make the play.
Hopefully that 4th down conversion to Nabers helped him see that if he just puts enough air on it, his receiver will catch it.
I like seeing Brian Kelly engaged and on his arse about those throws. Pretty sure I saw him yell, "Just fricking throw it up."

Although what you said was true, and I was happy to see a pass going downfield, he still under threw it. If he learns to put air under the ball and let our bad arse receivers run under it, then he looks great and we score more points. Plus I’ll stop screaming at the tv about how terrible our qb is

Not sure why, but a week ago you weren't allowed to say this, it was pretty weird. Pre-snap reads and anticipation on routes continues to be Daniels' biggest issue by far
He's obviously way more physically gifted but he's honestly a lot like Max Johnson

It’s not like he isn’t capable of making throws. We’ve even seen him make a few nice reads out there, but he isn’t consistent with it at all and it takes time to get him into a rhythm. In the FSU and State games it took an entire half, which just won’t cut it.

You are correct. He is NOT a QB. He is terrible. The only thing he can do is run.

Except until Daniels develops, the team will only be a middle of the pack SEC team. Sorry that we have higher standards.
