Thoughts on Colby Richardson’s first game at cornerback?

I know that’s not how his name is spelled. I only saw his name called a few times against Florida State, which as a corner, is what you want.
Any opinions on his performance? It would be nice if we had a lockdown out there.

All of the corners played pretty well, even Garner. Garner had the one huge mistake, but other than that he was making plays.

Was Richardson covering the 6’7” guy? Thought I saw him matched up with their tall receiver.

Garner followed him a lot from what I saw

i thought he played well. the corners were not bad, the linebackers however were god awful.

You have this completely wrong. The corners are not being asked to do what LSU customarily asks its corners to do. They are dropping back into zones, and when in man, are probably playing conservatively. This is placing a lot of pressure on the short zones, whether covered by LBers, safeties or corners. We have some of the best cover LBers in the SEC, but they can’t be everywhere.

I think the DBs were fine.
Honestly the dime package and linebackers made our middle soft and we never adjusted
That and the QB missed tackles

I agree but I think the safeties were playing too deep also.

I wouldn't say they played "well"...but they played better than expected and maybe earned a little more trust.

Yep. That was the weakest spot on the defense

I've seen a lot of people say they were pleased with the CBs. My gripe about them was their failure to turn and find the ball on deep throws. I saw a good bit of "face guarding"... which eventually will lead to a lot of pass interference calls as the season continues. Idk, maybe im just use to our DBs being taught better and having excellent ball skills.

That is a true statement about never looking back for the ball. Interference penalties will surely follow.

yep. so many people thought it was gonna be our secondary to struggle. nope, LB's and offensive line. if they can just get them to a serviceable level we're a MUCH dangerous team.

Very true they ate up our zone particularly on 3rd downs in 1st 3 quarters and when lost contain on QB. He threw well on the run and it made receivers open.

I didn’t notice him one way or another. I did notice Garner getting roasted on that trick play.

He bit that hook line and sinker, ball was underthrown though, a faster corner maybe recovers.

My complaint is constantly seeing out Db's not looking back for the ball in the air? I thought this is taught in high school. Mike Jones just looked lost play, #30(name slips my mind) wasn't terrible play Baskerville, Weeks, and start playing Harold Perkins more.

LSU corners haven’t turned their heads in the last decade. That’s shitty Corey Raymond. Gonna take more than one game to shake Corey Raymond’s bum arse coaching from the program.
