Last night sucked. I walked out the PMAC in total disbelief. Alabama came in here with more energy and shot lights out. It was our biggest game of the season to date, and we got assaulted.

That being said, the ship isn’t sinking. Sure, our defense is still suspect, and we’ve all been wanting that fixed for 3 seasons now. A 30-pt loss sucks, but it’s still only one loss. We’ve been a better team more times than not.

Will Wade has a 33-10 conference record the last 3 seasons. We’ve finished 1st, tied for second and currently second place. He said it after the game last night, and it really stood out to me. “What we’re doing is working. There’s no reason to panic and start from scratch.”

I’m not into moral victories, but I trust the staff will continue to take us where we want to be. We’ll have a shot at Alabama in a couple weeks. There’s no doubt in my mind that Coach Wade will have us ready for that one.

The realization came into mind as he second half hit that Bama is pretty fricking good this year.

Anyone who isn’t proud af to be led by tPear shouldn’t be allowed at tOrchard.

tOrchard is building a championship program. No time to hear jim bob cooter and the gang to lecture us on “street bawl”

I know that tRant is full of absolute clowns, but the threads after losses are just pathetic. Most of the people have no idea what they’re watching and comment like they’re John Wooden.

being more sound fundamentally is not starting from scratch. I like Wade but some of the basic things are driving me crazy...lazy passes and having trouble inbounding the ball shouldn't be so common at this level.

The truth is coming into the game we were a top 15 defense guarding the 3. The truth is Alabama was (is) an average shooting team but high volume. I’ve watched them several times. I’ve watched John Petty for YEARS. Not a single player on that team is as good of a shooter as they were last night. I’ve watched them miss wide open 3’s all season. Point blank, last night was a complete fluke.

We panicked on offense because when they start the game 11 for 13 from 3, it forces you to try and match them. Quinerly made multiple 3’s with dudes right on him. He’s a 28% shooter. He airballed a wide open 3 in the second half.

We had some really bad luck and got shellshocked. We still have a top 4 SEC team, and nobody in the tourney will want to play us.

There is no question that Wade has performed well at LSU. But my question for him would be what is the ultimate goal for his program? If it is solely to compete within the SEC and win a game or two in the NCAAT then he is right, what they are doing is working. But if the goal is to achieve beyond that then they simply aren't going to do so unless he accepts that what he is doing defensive IS NOT working. LSU has the starkest contrast between offense/defense of any team currently in the Kenpom top 50 by a wide margin...the same as it was LAST season

I go back to Les Miles's tenure in football. Arguably what he was doing was "working". LSU was winning 9 games a season and competing for the SEC title almost every year. But we were all losing our minds because he flat out refused to change or adjust what EVERYONE, not just LSU fans, recognized was the one area holding LSU back from potentially being great...his offensive approach. Much like what has been the theme of Wade's tenure LSU was playing in a ton of close games...regardless of quality of opponent. Ultimately, they were winning more than they were losing, but we all kept thinking "we're so damn close! Fix the fricking offense!" Les never did and his tenure ultimately ended. In 2019 LSU finally fully embraced a "modern offense" and we saw what happened.

LSU is closer to being a consistent real championship contender than at any point in the last 30 years. The recruiting in championship level. The offense is championship level. But if Wade is convinced (and it is clear that he is) that what they are doing on defense is "working", then I fear we are going to go down a road of many good, so really good season, but never reaching their full potential.

so much this

the turnovers and sloppy offense was the result of forcing and panicking

Watford was trying to do way too much

it only compounded the Bama 3 onslaught

LSU has a habit of playing terrible when people finally get excited enough to go out and watch them.

LSU needs to work on going man-to-man and extending beyond the 3-point line for teams that basically shoot 3s all night. Probably no team would have beat Bama last night (or very few anyway) because Bama had a miracle shooting night. I think Petty was 8/10 on 3s and two other guys were 6/7 each I believe or something like that. However, LSU had only 5 points in the first 5 minutes of the game. That was really bad regardless of what Bama was doing on offense.

you should read the truth about the teams we have played shooting the 3...most ranked between 200-300 shooting pct from 3

Until Wades teams play consistently solid defense especially on the perimeter , sweet 16 is probably the max as far as ncaa tournament goes.

No sense of urgency on defense but a ton of panic on offense.

After Petty hit the third, someone should have been on his face and denying him the ball. It was obvious he was hot and in rhythm. You have to disrupt that in some fashion. Also, we don’t play with any physicality when defending the perimeter. This would have been the game to rack up floor fouls for checks and blocks. Put hands and bodies on shooters. Hip them if they drive. Live with the foul make the refs call body fouls and live with the consequences. Don’t let the shooters have free, unmolested looks at the goal.

Offensively , we took too many bad or rushed shots once we got down by 15. It continued throughout the game. You can’t get it back with one of two possessions. Have to play disciplined ball on both ends, making stops and them working for good shots.

I don't think we play ball denial defense. It should be worked on everyday in practice bc everyone plays it against CT and he rarely gets open looks from 3 anymore

2 years ago he got screwed and didn't coach in the tourney. We got beat by a really good MSU squad in the Sweet 16, but who knows if he coaches. Last year we didn't have a tourney. I think it's pretty unfair to just say he simply can't win nationally. I love how 4 years ago we were one of the worst programs in Power 5, now we're upset that we only win one or two games in the tournament...c'mon.

I mean the guy is fighting a huge uphill fight. Half the "fans" just shite on him when we have a bad game. The Italians of college basketball are doing everything they can to get him cancelled. We missed out on Cisse who is an elite rebounder and shot blocker. With him, this team is different. It is entirely too soon for people to be hating on the coach who took a program from complete shite to a top tier SEC team.

Yep, we were out of sorts within the first 4 minutes, and that was all she wrote.

I don't think anyone is upset that they "only won two games in the tournament". It's that he has them seemingly on the cusp of potentially being a big time national player but clearly fails to do anything to remedy the ONE area that is holding them back...their defense. He recognizes they have to get much better. He's said as much in in press conferences. Yet, they are playing the same and taking the same approach to defense as they did last year. As a result, the numbers are largely the same as the other years when they struggled defensively.

Calling for his firing is dumb. There is FAR too much good than bad (on the court). But it's unreasonable to recognize he has a big deficiency in his coaching approach that if corrected, even just marginally so, could make this team and others in the future a real challenger for championships. The numbers don't lie. Defense wins. Now, you don't have to be as good defensively when you are as good as LSU is offensively. But you can't be sub 100 either...or anything close.
